Mannconomy 2.0 update confirmed by this I reckon. It'll go out of beta at the end/middle of September, along with a new TF2 update, I reckon.

After steam just restarted with a "patch" of some sort, the new friend list is working for my mac :D

Try looking at the top of your list? Or maybe go to "Community" and jabbing "Invites". I'm not using the beta right now so I wouldn't know.
