Open with notepad: userfiles\config\example_idle.txt
Then add at the bottom:
testing=2
Then relaunch. It will tell what different stages of loading it's at, so I can know where it's stopping. A screenshot will be useful.
I have not found an item in four days.
I'm very unlucky, and have no "real" hats, even though i have been playing longer then some people with multiple "real" hats.
Valve should really be focusing on fixing the idiotic-to-begin-with system, not fixing idling. A system that simply favors luck should not be in the game.

Crits. :v:
Nah, just kidding, I know how crits work.
The problem is that every other system possible is farmable. If killing players or capturing points or whatever increments the drop rate, there will always be ways to farm. Random drop rate is actually the best solution, it still gives advantages to idlers, but not so much.
Robin said they wanted to decrease the power of idling. Maybe they ninja'd this in here in 20th's update?
Why do people keep saying they wanted to lower the benefits of idling? All he said was that he wanted to reduce the value of idling.
The goals around the tuning are to reduce the value of idling, and to increase the amount of items being found.
But I'll admit that the time between drops will often vary between 25-30 minutes, yet no reconnection was initiated and such.
I have over 100 item drops logged with the session start/end marked. It's... variable. Eh.... who knows, we're splitting hairs.
Wait how do i turn that on?So it shows when i find something? I cant read back cause im in a hurry,so sorry if you already said how.
I think every time you capture, a point, or kill a certain amount of enemies in a row, or heal a certain amount of health, there should be a random drop. And general random drops should be removed.
This will reward people for doing constructive things in the game. This way people will be forced to play to get drops. I know I'm a bit of a hypocrite since I've idled, I'd still prefer this than the current system however.
Servers can fake info about these sorts of things and valve really dont have the manpower to try and check whats faked and whats not. The reason everything is valve serverside and unrelated to gameplay is exactly because of that, really.

That console you see is Dispenser GUM's Source Tools
http://www.sourceop.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2292
It starts TF2 and monitors your connection and item drops.
Wow for the first, like, 12 posts all of the ratings are gaybows, dumbs, bad spellings, disagrees and clocks
Just found out my droprates are still pretty high, didn't know about drunken fools "hourly" update thing he's now enforcing so thought I was just being really unlucky.
EZ spectate isn't very clever. It cant even filter out full servers.

So what? it only wastes a few seconds per full server. If TF2 gets disconnected with "Server is full." Source Tools just moves on to the next one.
The point of the script is to keep you connected without your intervention. It's not there to save precious "seconds".
I could have Source Tools pre-check if the server is full using A2S queries, but doing that would take just as long to find a server with space.
