• Spy is the most pointless class in Team Fortress 2
How so? Each of the classes serve a clearly defined purpose. Scout = Taking out priority targets, capturing the point/intel/pushing the cart, flanking Soldier = General offensive unit Pyro = Multi-purpose offensive support unit Demoman = Area denial and also serves as offensive support Engineer = Defense Heavy = Tank Sniper = Long-range assassination Medic = Keeping the team alive and Ubercharges
Scout = Really low health, piece of shit against sentry nests Soldier = Can't do shit against distant targets (exception: direct hit against far away buildings) Demoman = Usually fucked against other classes on short range combat and long range Pyro = Really awful in open spaces Engineer = Low health and not really useful on offense Heavy = Slow as fuck and bullet-magnet Sniper = Shitty mid-short range and almost instagibbable Medic = Priority target with not a lot of health Spy = Low health and situational usage Spy purpose = Strategic picks. Goddammit, chainstabs are EXCEPTIONS. It's called Team Fortress for a reason. Saying that a class is completely useless based on subjective opinions is like saying a game is bad because you can't play it well. Oh, and this: Yeah, spy is pointless.
The best part is that these people always do this sort of threads, but then it's like nothing had happened. No one is going to stop playing a class just because it's "useless" in your point of view. They could be doing very well and you doing rubbish. I know some great spies, actually. They sometimes fool me and sometimes they don't. Depends on your/their luck. The important thing is to never take the same path over and over again. Even a rat won't fall into the same trap twice. Or three times. Or four if the rat's dumb. [del]I could say the Scout is useless because he's always running around doing nothing with the FaN. I could say the Soldier is useless because he's only rocket jumping around and using weapons I don't like. I could say the Pyro is overpowered because I suck amazingly at keeping a distance. I could say the Demoman is overpowered cuz stickies and swords. I could say the Heavy is useless because he's a fat, slow fuck. I could say the Engineer is useless because he's only sitting there in his sentry nest. I could say the Medic is useless because he never heals. I could say the Sniper is useless because he never kills people. I could say the Spy is useless because he sucks at going around people unspotted.[/del] TL;DR All the classes suck if they are not used correctly which translates into poor skill and poor teamwork anyway All of the classes have their pros and cons, but the important thing about TF2 is TEAMWORK and COMMUNICATION!
If they nerf the dead ringer/enforcer then i would agree with op but saharan spy set is so much fun.
Man, the Spy is one of the best classes of the game. It's really fun killing people sneaking before and then bang, kill him from behind.
Man, the Spy is one of the best classes of the game. It's really fun killing people sneaking before and then bang, kill him from behind.
This and Deus Ex (1) inspired me Time to practice more Spy :v:
As stated before, it isn't Spy that is "pointless", it is the player's abilities that may not be up to your standards. If you ask me, camping snipers are the most pointless class, the ones who stand back and miss 9 out of every 10 shots, especially if they use the Razorback. However, Sniper becomes a valuable team player if he is a field Sniper, shifting positions and staying close to others when Sniping to prevent being predictable and useless. Bonus points if he wields Huntsman/Jarate, and effectively. Of course, like the Spy, it all comes in term of skill. If you have a new player who's just grasping the game, he obviously isn't going be too much of a help, but that isn't a reason to call him useless. Now, if they're messing up 100% of the time because they lack common sense, be my guest and say that they're worthless. Although you may deem a class, or more specifically, a certain player worthless, they all help the team (or try to) in their own way.
OP has no idea how even the very basics of Team Fortress 2 work.
Don't you mean Fortress 2? Team has no meaning in this game. Or at least of my experience - Possibly the only times teamwork is involved it's with friends.
Hello! It looks like you're trying to play competitive TF2. Would you like any help? • I want to suck less at Spy • I want to realize that this game is geared towards fun and not balance for balance's sake • I want to understand that even though I am talking about "high skill level", the Spy is perfectly balanced when it comes to lower skill levels
Are you shitting me. You're almost as silly as the OP. Snipers save lives. If I had a key for every time I've seen a sniper save someone's ass or I saved someone's ass while I was a sniper, I would have enough keys to crash the shitty TF2 economy. They are also good for taking out sentries safely.
This. Whenever I play a Sniper, I go for priority targets or anything that tries interrupting our team's progress. For example, clear out defenses, shoot Engineers before they can build anything, clear caps, payload carts, and I always go for that one Medic that's actually competent. Oh, and I always make sure to stay in the field and be as agressive as I can be. Jarate+huntsman works good for that.
If you're lucky and time things correctly, the engineer can be used quasi-offensively. And it's fun as heck doing it, though hard to pull off. (With his buildings, I mean)
If they nerf the dead ringer/enforcer then i would agree with op but saharan spy set is so much fun.
The enforcer has caused me so much rage. It can 2 shot light classes which is something a spy shouldn't be able to do I think. He already has a 100% lethal backstab, why give him even more killing power?
Ha! Hahahhahhahaha
and then the OP is never heard from again
Heavy is fucking DEFENSE. WHY DOES NO ONE USE HIM FOR THAT
cause the best defense is a good offense baby

And it defeats the whole purpose of the spy by making it slower to cloak/uncloak. It kinda makes him offensive rather than support. It's fun to use in crit servers though, 1 hit kill everything.
I'll admid I like the thread better then the useual: "SPY R 4 NUBS REMOVE PLOX!!!11!"

TL:DR: Someone who just played a bad game as spy proceeds to make a rant thread on facepunch.
not possible. 450 will kill anyone.
Fists of steel anyone?

(But the advice is still right)
I want to realize that this game is geared towards fun and not balance for balance's sake
What the hell is this even supposed to mean I don't see how making things actually balanced would make the game anything but more fun
I agree that the Enforcer is a bit OP. And it defeats the whole purpose of the spy by making it slower to cloak/uncloak. It kinda makes him offensive rather than support. It's still not OP or anything, but it gives very little reason to use any other revolver besides Diamondback and Ambassador.
The spy is pretty much a supplementary class at this point. But then again, so is the Pyro and he seems to be doing just fine*
If course it's pointless.....IF YOU SUCK AT IT. If you try and solo your way out of any situation, you'll get skullfucked, because this game is called TEAM Fortress 2.

Good Spies know how to work around the slower cloak time, then again you should use the DR with the Enforcer anyway. Degreaser + detonator + homewrecker + Napper's erry day
The past month I found I am really good at Spy. On some of the servers I play I am usually in the top 3 if not the MVP. I use the default weapons except I always use the Dead Ringer for the watch. The fact that I can kill 2 people per death at least is a good insurance. Unless there are a lot of pyros. I can deal with 1 or 2 pyros on a team but sometimes you just get a pyro whose only job is to spycheck and that sucks.
OP is obviously not very good as Spy, I play Spy most of the time and I've brought down entire teams by providing crucial support by taking out targets such as Medics, Heavies, and Snipers who could harm my team.
Shut up already, people, the spy isn't useless, nothing is useless in TF2 (with the possible exception of hats, of course). If you say that being a spy isn't rewarding, then CLEARLY you do not know what it feels like to go on a backstab spree and kill half of the enemy team.
Why do people always say every stealth based class is pointless?
