Like the title said. Spy is the most pointless class in Team Fortress 2. His impact on the game is so minimal that if you removed him from the game, nobody would notice.
Except for all the spy players, such as I. Spy is a good class and just because you can't play spy doesn't mean anyone shouldn't.
1. Spy is completely hampered by enemy competence
Because he has a weapon that instantly kills you, this encourages the spy to be more patient, and not just charge in the battlefield. I usually take longer to reach the enemy base, but they trust me more then.
2. Spy's skill:reward ratio is completely skewered
Wrong, backstabs are 2 points each, and you are helping the team from beyond the front lines. This isn't CoD where you only need to point and shoot.
3. There is nothing Spy can do, any class can't do better
Really? I'd like to see a heavy, pyro or scout take out that uber ready medic who's pocketing that heavy who's mowing down your team. I think you got the word "paranoia" here wrong. Spy is supposed to distract the enemy from the actual threat (i.e Get that engineer to follow you while your friendly heavy/demoman is around the corner taking out the sentry without interruption, getting that pyro to leave your entire team and lock on to you just because it's his damn job) Spy is the only class capable of getting that close to a functioning sentry, if the engineer is getting enough support to not be sapped, just don't go spy for a while, he'd still be paranoid and you'd be doing some actual damage.
To sum up, Spy was a fun concept Valve built but the execution was flawed. Spy should either be removed from the game completely rather than sit as a waste of player slots or Valve should buff up the Spy to be on par with his fellow mercenaries.
No he shouldn't. You should stop playing spy because you suck at it. if you think Soldier and Demoman are good classes, then why don't you go play as them and leave us spies sit as a waste of player slots. It's a good thing you didn't say sniper was a good class.
1. Spy is completely hampered by enemy competence Trust me, if they spent most of their time blasting corners and spychecking they wouldn't get anything done. Also what previous post said. 2. Spy's skill:reward ratio is completely skewered Two syllables, one word. Stairstab. When a spy becomes skillfull enough to stairstab they can even take down the mightest backburner pyro (Eurgh). 3. There is nothing Spy can do, any class can't do better Alright, make the any other class turn invisible and sneak into enemy defences and I'll let you have that. To sum up, Spy was a fun concept Valve built but the execution was flawed. Spy should either be removed from the game completely rather than sit as a waste of player slots or Valve should buff up the Spy to be on par with his fellow mercenaries. L2ambassador. Can rip apart someone from the other side of the map. They do not waste player slots, I've seen them in competitive Granary and Gravelpit. If the pros use the spy, how is it useless?
3. There is nothing Spy can do, any class can't do better Alright, make the any other class turn invisible and sneak into enemy defences and I'll let you have that.
SHH! Don't give Valve ideas! We don't want invisible Pyros, do we? ... Wait, do we?
I have stabby on my friends list, he's a admin on the server i play on. He is fucking crazy. I try countering his stair stabs, never works. He's also way too good at the ambassador.
Is he the one with like 2500 hours of spy?
I'm so happy you didn't suggest omfgninja or something. wats's guide is miles better, more thorough, and more recent.
OmfgNinja's skills are good, but the people he play against are terrible which in turn makes him look even better.

Eh, say whatever you want about Spy. I'm still going to play him because he's the most fun class in my eyes.
Just wondering, How many times has the enforcer been brought up? Because it's the most OP shit in TF2 (and I love it).
Just wondering, How many times has the enforcer been brought up? Because it's the most OP shit in TF2 (and I love it).
Only a few times, and I love it too.
Just wondering, How many times has the enforcer been brought up? Because it's the most OP shit in TF2 (and I love it).
Unbalanced, not OP. (it repulses me)
Unbalanced, not OP. (it repulses me)
OP with respect to the Spy as a class. Somewhat balanced (but erring on the side of being too damn powerful) in the metagame.
OP with respect to the Spy as a class. Somewhat balanced (but erring on the side of being too damn powerful) in the metagame.
It's not that OP, it still takes me more than four to five shots to kill a pyro.
The damage ramps on distance, at maximum damage it takes two shots to kill a pyro and it crits at 144.
Seriously? Ok, the class that has a weapon that insta-kills from any point in a 180 degree angle, that can disguise as ANY other class, that can turn invisible is pointless.
Seriously? Ok, the class that has a weapon that insta-kills from any point in a 180 degree angle, that can disguise as ANY other class, that can turn invisible is pointless.
Don't forget the unlock that negates 90% of damage.
A good spy is a force to be reckoned with, even if a backstab fails they can still hold their own in a fight. Most classes are pretty easy to kill with a revolver. Though I agree most people who play spy are terrible.
The damage ramps on distance, at maximum damage it takes two shots to kill a pyro and it crits at 144.
But at the range that the Enforcer would be a two shot kill is also the range where the Pyro would kill you almost instantly.

Nah, Joe is right, Spy is useless.. Hell, even the Scout.. Weak HP, can easily be slowed down or even stopped by sentries and Heavy (with Natasha..) So is the Heavy, with his low speed, easy target for Snipers.. And the Medic, with almost no chance for defending himself.. Damn, I just realized that no class can go solo D: Damn you TEAM Fortress 2..
Damn, I just realized that no class can go solo D:
Black Box Concheror Half-Zatoichi Soldier.
Let me get something clear to you. This thread is useless.
Black Box Concheror Half-Zatoichi Soldier.
Can be easily sniped down or .. backstabbed D:

[editline]7th September 2011[/editline] I believe that nothing is really overpowered. It all depends on who is using it.
Frankly, I am sick about "this class is useless because .." or "That one could use more weapons".. I agree, some classes are underpowered but that doesn't mean they are useless. Spies can turn the tide if used correctly. But it all depends how the player plays with it, and how the team deals with it. With a good team, a spy can be the key to victory. With a bad team, you are screwed nonetheless, doesn't matter what class you play. Even now, I was defeated with my team (a very good team, if I may say so) because one spy managed to sap all the sentries, killed me and 2 other engineers with the Enforcer, and continued sapping all the buildings. Then the enemy just push forward. So no, a spy isn't useless. And if you think it is, you played the wrong class, with the wrong team, on the wrong moment. -fin-
My friend was just pitching in on some ground breaking ideas to improve the spy:

I suck at other classes except for Spy (mostly because I play with f2p players that don't know about Dead Ringers)
Remind me again why we're still posting in a crappy thread that is comparable to the stuff on SPUF?
