Wouldn't nerfing the sets to hell also cause a backlash amidst those who purchased it?
If Valve removes the set bonuses they can just use the rationale that hats were never supposed to give an advantage.

Nothing has ever seen a complete removal once it has been included (the Raincatcher and Jag were accidents that were made official after they were added).
Weapon nerfs are expected, but none have ever seen an attribute flat-out removed.
Removing the set bonuses in their entirety will cause a backlash, even if it's for the best.
Since that barrier exists, the only alternative is to nerf them so far to hell that they make an insignificant impact on gameplay.
I know that people will react when their precious set bonuses get nerfed, which is why I propose that a gradual nerfing take place. Over the course of say 6 months, they gradually grow less and less powerful until it's at a point of being pretty much useless. It softens the blow and allows backlash to be gradual instead of all at once.
I rather Valve just gets rid of hats that need to be in for a set bonus.
I.E.= Degreaser and Powerjack don't need the attendant.

Granted, The Bonk Boy is the replacement to the Bonk'n'Flash that was contributed by the same creator but still...

I.E.= Degreaser and Powerjack don't need the attendant.
They did that with Australian Christmas and, as a result, toned down the set bonuses significantly as they would be much easier to attain. They were so insignificant that they realized that it wasn't worth their time to make more (which is why we have no new ones added with the Uber Update).
So wait, can we still do spinechilling skull + deus specs? that combo was awesome. I think it might be the same scenario for the noh mercy.

Nothing that was community-made and included in the game files has been abolished at any point.

Sam's Hat was technically submitted by a community member since he does not work for Valve... but that is just semantics. Anyhow, I really want the Bonk Boy to become Misc so I can pair it with the Batters Helmet and have a Super Hero Scout loadout w/ Team Spirit Essential Accessories...
Speaking of unused stuff, Mico, did you ever contact Valve about the Legionaire's Lid?
It remains the last community item added to the files that totally wasn't used (Bonk n Flash became the Bonk Boy)
You should really email them and ask them why it hasn't been included yet, and if there are any improvements you could make to ensure it gets it. They have not noticed it's even in the game, or they may have forgotton.
Double jump on the Sandman? -10% speed on hit on the Short Stop?
Hm, I forgot about the double-jump removal, but I'm pretty sure that the attribute still resides in the game files.
The slowdown-on-hit for the ShortStop never worked, so it's like it was never in the game in the first place.
Oh, and I guess the "Cannot airblast" attribute was "removed" from the Backburner.
But those are removals of downsides, not upsides. I should have clarified that I meant that the weapon's defining positive attributes have never been flat-out removed, although a few sparse downsides have gotten axed.

Its too similar to the Defiant Spartan. I guess two people had the same idea and Valve choose the one they liked better?

lots of hats are similar.
Further, it's not even the same hat, and not even from the same era. They're only vaguelly similar hats

I Just want the noh mercy to be paintable, so i can paint it white

laro's stated he doesn't want it to be paintable as it fucks with the quality of the texture i belive
I agree, we should have quadruple unusuals.
Have an unusual effect that are floating hats, and each floating hat is a different random unusual effect hat.
Oh god, let's hope this doesn't lead to TRIPLE UNUSUALS.
The most you can have at a time is 2.
The only misc items that can be unusual are the beak, party phantom, and noh mercy because they could be found in unusual quality before they were converted from hat to misc.
Since the phantom and noh mercy conflict with one another, only 1 can be worn at a time. So that means that only 1 unusual misc can be used with 1 unusual hat.

So far.
We have no idea about future Misc items that could become unusual.

I like how nobody mentions the Villains Veil.
And the fact that unusual miscs can still be uncrated regardless of the hat to misc change or not, since things like the orbiting fire beak exist.
I have the spurs, teddy and ten gallon. Ready for that update

Most unlikely, from the look of the preview pic I saw in the gcf, they completely butchered the texture to try to make it paintable (because I made that before the paint update). Plus not long after they added it has been spotted in the gcf, they released the spartan helmet which looks wayyy better than my legionaire's Lid.
can one equip Professor Spek + Villain's Veil?
Also, could someone be so nice to post a White Rubber Glove + Zephania's Greed Facade combo screenshot? I'd appreciate that

Remake it for paint, submit it, and bug Valve via email to add it in.
It's in the coding, and other instances where the item got in the coding by accident, they made it a real item (Jag, Rimmed Rain catcher, Bonk Boy).

Source? I'm curious
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Raincatcher
With the Mann-Conomy Update's release, an asset managing error occurred. This caused the Rimmed Raincatcher's model and texture to replace those of the Tippler's Tricorne. After noticing the error, Valve decided to add the Rimmed Raincatcher as a separate hat and it was added to the drop system, but not yet added to the game files. Due to this, any player that managed to find the Raincatcher from a hat drop, or crafting result, would have an "Unknown Item" displayed in one of the online backpack viewers. This was shortly resolved as part of the October 6, 2010 Patch, which restored the Tippler's Tricorne to its original model and texture and added the Rimmed Raincatcher as a separate item to the game files. http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Jag
The Jag was first found fully textured in the Team Fortress 2 game files after the Mann-Conomy Update, and was displayed in the Steam Update image for the Mann-Conomy Update. According to Robin Walker in an email to community author Jman, the Jag was originally intended to be a part of the Engineer Update, and was eventually cut when Valve couldn't figure out attributes for it. The Jag was later added to the game as part of the Australian Christmas update.
How do you want a Source for accidantly added items?
Anyway, look at the Item history:
