Stop Selling Fez for 6 Hats, you will Be ok!
Seriously Guys New Hats Worth 6+ Hats!are You kidding Me?
It's not my fault if someone offers me 6 hats for one of my hats and I take it. I wouldn't do it myself, but I'm sure as hell not going to pass that offer up.
I never take advantage of someone's stupidity for my own benefit. You should too.
I do. Like I said, if someone wants to give me 6 hats for a new hat, That's their problem. It's not my fault they wanted to do such a stupid trade.

oh ya follow-up post by the same dev:
Lack of information also causes people to get scammed. It isn't just gullibility. We have to work to inform our customers (for example, that any item that says "Community" in the title isn't necessarily a community rare) and we also have to work to deter scamming.
People that are conned often think to themselves the deal is too good to be true, but do it anyway. Often they are very smart people. We convince ourselves to do something that we realize was dumb in hindsight. Doesn't mean the cops should laugh at you when you report the con.
Yeah well that's not stopping them is it
I really hope valve doesn't get over-zealous.
Sure punish people who claim they'll name your items, but if it progresses to the point where someone can get their account "nuked" for making a biased trade (which trades AREN'T?) I'll be pissed.
I don't mean to sound offensive here but this is kind of ironic when you look at the prices for a lot of the items in the Mann Co. Store.
I've been giving a lot of free hats/cheap trades to my friends. Like I gave my friend a whoopee cap and he gave me a rocket jumper. Or Rong traded me his whoopee cap and I painted it gold with some paint I bought then traded it back to him. They could see those things as scams when I'm only trying to help.
Heck I even bought a key because my friend had a crate and I offered to open it. There was an unusual(green confetti) soldier stash inside and I gave it back to him for free.

A good opportunity is hard to ignore. Valve needs to find a way to sort out the real scammers.
My whole point is, the general scammed players were kids or way too dumb people, Valve don't need such a mostly stupid action like removing all his items and then disabling the account, why they just don't give the weapon or whatever back to the guy and punish the scammer by just giving a warning then removing items, and if he scam again disable tf2, not the entire account, even because vac bans just disable the game you hacked not the whole account.TL;DR:Valve shouldn't take the punishment like that.

The nuclear options seem to be until they get those in.

The nuclear option seems really fucking retarded, because if someone looses their entire account for scamming someone for a hat, I think someone is going to try to sue valve.
I am think that scam is when you get something from nothing, right? Well, if somebody thinks that weapons are better then hats, its not scam.
I am think that scam is when you get something from nothing, right? Well, if somebody thinks that weapons are better then hats, its not scam.
That won't stop kids from reporting people for trading 4 hats for 1.
I am think that scam is when you get something from nothing, right? Well, if somebody thinks that weapons are better then hats, its not scam.
No, i think it's when the player actually reports you, because i always borrow new weapons from friends.
Surely you didint think VALVe would just let you guys rip people off , if so , too bad.
I think it would be a pretty bad business move to ban someone's entire account for such an offense and potentially lose a long time customer. They should just return the scammed item(s) and give the offending party a warning the first time or perhaps take something from their inventory. Disabling an entire account seems a bit drastic.
I traded my BONK! Helmet for a Name Tag, but hey; I like my Minigun named "Sit the Fuck Down".
They need to actually TELL PEOPLE for this to work as a deterance. People who were scamming on the first few days got their shit fucked up, and they arn't getting reversed. That's fucking ridiculous considering 1. They wern't warned and 2. The people who WERE warned (on a Facepunch thread, nobody else knows) are now getting a slight slap on the wrist compared to the people who didn't know better.
Yeah sure scamming isn't cool, but losing your $1000 account with hours and hours of achievements and stats and friends for a hatless sniper? That's ridiculous and if you think it isn't you were probably scammed yourself you retard.

Tf2 will become a monster and devour our souls for winning a stacked match by coincidentally being on the winning team.
They should make it so 1st offense is a 24 hour TF2 ban in increments of 24 hours until a week, then start doing the same with VAC until a week ban, then a complete lock in increments until they offend once after the week lock and make it permanent. Harsh enough and gives plenty of warning.
I'm completely against scamming but stopping access to all Steam products is way too harsh.
Not even Blizzard does that..
I'm completely against scamming but stopping access to all Steam products is way too harsh.

NO ONE does that.
Fucking Valve is the worst company ever.
[sp]I'm joking, but they're fucking up majorly [/sp]
I'm guessing this is a deterrent while they establish a proper system to deal with scammers.
Account deactivation is way too harsh. At most, repeat offenders should be barred from drops and trading altogether, and have their inventory wiped. Cheating incurs a VAC ban, how can scamming justify losing your entire account?
So it's good to take advantage of people's stupidity for your own personal gain?
Yes. :mmmhmm:
There would be a lot less scamming if there was an official way to paint another person's item without risk or if you could trade more than four items at a time.
'Hey I'll paint your hat for you for a reclaimed'
"Okay!"
'Lol just joking thanks for the hat.'
Or
'I want 6 weapons for this hat.'
"Okay I'll trade you two weapons before and then four in the final trade."
'Lol thanks for the free two weapons.'
(I'm aware they could do four weapons and the hat in the first trade and then the two weapons afterwards, but you could not give the two weapons afterward and still have the hat thus ripping the person off who traded the hat in the first place(trading a hat for weapons probably isn't one of the best ideas to start with either)).
Hey, I'm new to this game, and my friend was nice enough to trade me 4 new polycount weapons to help get me st- HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MY ACCOUNT.
So like, do they nuke based on complaints or do they pick a random target they feel is scamming?
[editline]05:43AM[/editline]
I don't see a problem with this.
don't be an asshole.
You see, being the "asshole" is subjective. The receiver of a trade of 4 hats for 1 could see it as a good deal, considering the coolness or rarity of the hat. But Valve could see this and throw down the ban hammer if they have a different opinion.
Also, what if I intentionally posed as an idiot, getting myself scammed by players who do not know of this banning system and report them?
Seriously, just about everything with this system I can think of is wrong.
They should implement a system or message that will show a huge warning like "YOU ARE ABOUT TO TRADE YOUR *item name here* AWAY FOR FREE, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS? YOU MAY LOSE YOUR ITEM" So people realize that the other person could be a scammer.

Damn if I know. Probably mostly based on complaints and then they might also have a way to look at a person's previous trades. Me and a friend always do trades that would be really unbalanced in normal scenarios, like I'll give him a hat he really wants and he'll trade me whatever he really feels like(which could be just a bit of metal or a weapon I don't have yet).
Disabling someone's account just because of an unbalanced trade is not a good thing to do, let alone basically bragging about it in a message(Lol we nuke from orbit guys). It doesn't help their company image to say things like that. How would you feel if you never actually did anything wrong and your account got disabled and then you go to ask why you got banned:
'Well you shouldn't have scammed that person.'
"But I didn't! We both agreed to the trade and knew what we were getting in return!"
'Well there's no way we can prove you weren't scamming so tough shit, better luck next time.'
Or even worse is they actually don't have to answer
Like trading a weapon for a hat, it's fine if they both agreed on it. But if one of them talked them into trading the item and saying they'll get more afterward then that person should be warned, then punished somehow by removing a hat from their account, then more serious punishment can follow if that person continues.
Valve, destroying tf2 one step at a time.

This is so true it's actually kind of depressing. Something is changing in Valve's offices and it shows. I think the game was actually better off when we didn't get new items for 5 months or more at a time.
I didn't scam anyone but I'm bit worried someone could use this to ban innocent people.
I didn't scam anyone but I'm bit worried someone could use this to ban innocent people.
There's always that worry when a company says something like this. Heck I'm worried myself and I haven't scammed anyone. If anything I'm the one being "scammed" by giving hats and weapons away for free.
