They should implement a system or message that will show a huge warning like "YOU ARE ABOUT TO TRADE YOUR *item name here* AWAY FOR FREE, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DO THIS? YOU MAY LOSE YOUR ITEM" So people realize that the other person could be a scammer.
This seems like a pretty good idea.
This seems like a pretty good idea.
In worked pretty good in Runescape, big flashing red exclamation marks and text everywhere really woke people up.
I hope I don't get into trouble for one of my friends that doesn't play TF2 anymore allowing me to harvest his items every week.
In worked pretty good in Runescape, big flashing red exclamation marks and text everywhere really woke people up.
Too bad Runescape pulled that whole bullshit where the traded item has to be of equal or within the range of 1000 coins of value or whatever. [editline]06:06AM[/editline]
Disabling someone's account just because of an unbalanced trade is not a good thing to do, let alone basically bragging about it in a message(Lol we nuke from orbit guys). It doesn't help their company image to say things like that. .
I know, right? They sound like children. MAN WE GONNA NUKE YOUR SHIT FROM ORBIT. THAT IS HOW HARDCORE WE ARE.
This seems like a pretty good idea.
In worked pretty good in Runescape, big flashing red exclamation marks and red flashing text everywhere really woke people up. Speaking of Runescape, a Grand Exchange type system for trading would actually work pretty well I think. (The item management itself, not a location based thing though. It could be a button in the manage items menu.) http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Grand_exchange Basically you talk to a NPC in the GE(Grand Exchange(It could just be a button in TF2 that opens a menu)) and say what you want for the item, then your item is 'in the ge' meaning you can't use it while it's in there. Once someone does the opposite of your trade(say you wanted a toque, tyrant's helm, and modest pile of hat for your Chieftan, and they wanted to trade a toque, tyrant's helm, and modest pile for a chieftan) then the GE exchanges the items and the trading is done. You don't even have to be on the same server or even logged in to Steam do the trade! Of course it could be modified so that you can see existing offers and sort them and such but I think that type of system would work great for trading. No trade limits though, please. It's fun to have freedom.
don't tell valve, I just traded 12 IRL hats for a Fez :ohdear:

I think the morale here is to not scam players. Valve obviously doesn't like it, I don't think you're going to get away with arguing it.
I like EVEs system "do whatever the hell you want and as long as your not hacking and we are cool with it"
I do believe they will recognize the difference between a trade somebody regrets the day after and a "lol I paint your shit"-scam. IIRC they record what was traded and when, so they can point out when somebody really keeps getting hats and a few bits of metal (as a price for the painting) for free all the time and who just traded a crate for two hats. They do not outright deactivate accounts and they clear people's inventory first as a big warning. They also said they're working on "less harsh methods of punishment". I can understand where they're coming from, seeing as real money is involved here. You've all seen a few threads around about people making real money with this via paypal and the sums aren't all small. Maybe I view it all more relaxed because I don't feel guilty nor would I scam somebody in the future. No idea what people mean with "destroying TF2".
I like EVEs system "do whatever the hell you want and as long as your not hacking and we are cool with it"
Seriously, I think Valve's current system is way too overzealous.
Just don't trust anybody that says "I'll open your crate" or "I'll paint your hat" and you should be fine. Valve should let off and let stupid people learn their lesson themselves.
How to tell if the so called Community item is real. I figured this out today. When I got a nametag and renamed my The holy mackerel to Look at that fucking fish! When I noticed it did "Look at that fucking fish!" as its name. And I didn't add quotes to it. So real items won't have the "" added to there names.
I enjoyed the Aliens reference.
About 10 bucks for a hatless scout, having to buy items to use on your in game stuff, banning people for "scams" and shutting down accounts. Trading is the biggest trainwreck I've seen in a long time. Like, seriously I'm sick of joining a server and seeing >BUYING GREEN PAINT Sift: (voice) Help! >BUYING GREEN PAINT Guy (Casual convo) Guy 2 (Casual convo) >BUYING GREN PAINT!!!! People spamming invites to trade just because they see you wearing a hat "Uhm can I give you bak burner for hound dogg????" Seriously god damn
I'm not trading anymore, some assholes might give me a hat for a weapon then call it scam just to get my games taken away, its stupid. hell, taking your tf2 items is stupid too.
Oh this is going to be fun, time to rip off myself and then get chatlogs and have kids lose all their shit. :downs:
They should remove trading. And the store. Then put some effort into a warning system like runescape but without the value limit BS and implement a gradual item removal and ban system. Then re release. They also need to show a difference between bought and droped items.
Um The only people who should be naive enough to fall for trading scams are little kids They shouldn't be playing this game in the first place
Buy valve is valve and listens to it's people, mainly SPUF. What is the average age in the TF section?
I never take advantage of someone's stupidity for my own benefit. You should too.
Taking advantage of stupidity happens every, single, day on the internet. No matter if its a game or a website.
Who do Valve listen to SPUF and not us? :saddowns:
Oh my. I hope they don't value stuff from shit tier to sexy tier.
I like EVEs system "do whatever the hell you want and as long as your not hacking and we are cool with it"
I like that. 'Oh that guy just stole thousands of dollars worth of in-game currency? Who cares?'
I'll scam on my second account then lol
I'm all for giving malicious people who exploit others via the trade system a harsh punishment, but disabling their entire Steam account has to be crossing a line somewhere. You aren't even allowed to trade items you paid real money for in the Mann Co. Store, so scammers can't really 'steal' anything. I realize they could scam items with paid paint colors and names attached to them, but it's generally all the same; those items don't cost very much and if the scam reporting system is working correctly then the victim will eventually get their item back anyway. Punishment should stay inside of TF2. At the most, impose a VAC ban. Nothing more. Deleting the inventory of the offender on the first offense and then VAC banning or totally disabling the trade feature for them on the second offense sounds about right to me.
If I can get my account disabled because of some kid's whining then I guess I'm not going to trade. I don't trust the moderators to be unbiased. v:v:v
There is one solution to false scamming. Every time someome reports a scam trade, gather the last 20-50 lines of chat from the server they are on (should they be on one). If they aren't on a server, then gather the chat from the in-trade window, inf act, do that even if they aren't on a server. Then make an educated decision based on that. Instead of flat out banning an account. Though banning an entire account for exploiting someones stupidity for a in game item is pretty fucking pathetic. There is nothing morally wrong with it, it's an in game item with no effect on the game. Stop crying and get on with your life.

It isn't like the scammie was the one who did it. It's just valve making sure everyone is happy. Would you of liked it better that you/someone you knows account wasn't deleted for being a douche to some stupid 12 yearold or something? Because I don't see how you can be defending someone who rips off little kids/idiots.

Because I don't see how you can be defending someone who rips off little kids/idiots.
Quite easily really. Hats that can be traded have no monetary value, they are of no use, they do not change that game. If someone is dumb enough to not check the scammers backpack for say, an item like paint. or not use a safeguard in the trade ("I'll give you x hat if you give my y hat to make sure you don't run off") then they usually deserve it. Blocking your entire Steam account which can have hundreds/ thousands of dollars of games over a free hat in one game is pathetic. They should at most, suspend you from playing TF2 for a while, not block your account entirely. Anyone who backs this scheme up with their heart and soul should be shot, seriously. It's not fair to lose an in game item, no, but it does not make banning an entire account right either.
