Wow, that's a bit drastic for something happening in a game. "You scammed someone for a free, virtual hat? You lose a +$1000 account!"
Well fuck then, don't do it? Valve makes rules, obey them.
Valve are now cyber-bullies. :(
I traded 2 hats for the 8 vintage weapons that I was missing because I had nothing else to trade at the time and I didn't deem those 2 hats important to me, so I did it willingly, would that count as scam if I were a scumbag and decided to report it?
i dont give a shit i made $50 without giving shit to some fuckers now i have their money and my items retards
Id say, this is what valve should expect when you add a trading system?
Are they going to nuke farmers as well? The payoff in idling two accounts every cap reset and transferring to one account seems to undermine the Mann-Co Store's ability to sell.

Someone should ask Robin.
Irony A company charging 17 dollars for hats in a game says you may not "scam" people in trade.
I blame all these dumb fucks who accept the trades. Also, they're bits of polygons that have no actual worth. Seriously Valve, sort your shit out.
I like how nobody in this thread actually understood what Valve said in the OP.

If you give some guy your hat so he can paint it and then he keeps it that's your fault for trusting a stranger with your hat.
I like how nobody in this thread actually understood what Valve said in the OP.
I read the entire thing. Just because they say they know what's a real scam and what's not doesn't mean they really do. You can't believe everything you read and hear.
if you havn't been nuked yet you wont be in the future, unless you do it again.

Why should people dumb enough to trade their things get them back and ban the other person?
tried to trade for a chieftan today, offered 5 hats. pointed this out and he instantly cancelled the trade.
What are you doing Valve? This is too harsh. It's not like they steal Steam accounts.
Does trading 1 hat for 3 hats can be considered a scam? :v: Cause I'm dead meat if so.
*Scam in action* Valve: TACTICAL NUKE INBOUND :v:
Valve takes their retarded visual customization system more seriously than 90% of the people who use it, jesus. Honestly, i've done nothing but hunt for good deals since i don't want to spend money on the polycount items. But if someone complains because i'm haggling then i can get fucked out of my trade? Honestly it shouldn't be our fault for being resourceful, this was an ECONOMY update.
Does trading 1 hat for 3 hats can be considered a scam? :v: Cause I'm dead meat if so.
Only if both of you are content with the trade
And yet they don't do a damned thing if you get your steam account scammed :effort:
Only if both of you are content with the trade
Oh, so as long as I don't "steal" one without his approval, I'm good to trade 5 hats to 1 ? I always go "take it or leave it" before a trade.
This is for the best really. Cuts down on all the bullshit drama that hats already have.

oh god won't somebody think of the poor scammers
first macrotransactions and now this? sorry valve but fuck you.
More games with trade really should take EVE's approach of "It's all fair game so long as you aren't hacking or exploiting glitches." Valve should at least lessen the penalty and put up a very public warning on say, the actual trading menu itself, similar to the "Never tell your password to anyone." reminder whenever you get into a steam chat. Sure people will eventually just start ignoring it but just like anyone that has fallen for a scam already IT IS THEIR FAULT.
Let's hope Valve knows what they're doing...
oh god won't somebody think of the poor scammers
They have feelings too! Seriously, people complaining about scammers getting punished, what the fuck.
I dont get what "scamming" means for valve, i mean, both persons clicked the "check" button and then the "trade" button. I dont see scamming there.
Perhaps they could add a notification saying, "You have accepted a trade where you shall receive nothing, are you sure?" Then perhaps a note about scamming in general?
