draw a box around the hat with selection tool, copy (ctrl+c)
paste and it will be transparent due to layers

This needle hasn't been used in god knows how long, It was medic's father who originally made and owned this needle.
This fine needle was never properly used like this until the fall of Berlin during the second world war, where his father had to keep his family alive one way or another, By attaching a makeshift saw to a needle used to research "Uber" he was able to get his family out of Berlin and into the countryside at the cost of his own life.
The needle was finally found and returned to medic in this state.

The channels make stuff invisible.
There should be channels RGB, Red, Blue and Green. What you need to add is layer called "Alpha" among them. Black = transparent White= stuff that isn't transparent.
Just open some transparent vtf file and you'll see what I mean.
I also suggest you add 1 pixel line around the white areas, so you wouldn't have ugly outline like on heavy's trophy gun backpack picture. :)

Thanks for the attempted help, but I finally got it after people explained it to me many many times. I can now make icons (which makes me an Easter egg), so glad.
