And being the only Medic in a cp_ map, when everyone and their second cousin's calling for me, I just tell them, "If you want to be healed, schedule an appointment with me next time!"
The only Medic on the team should use Quick-Fix.
Care to explain all the disagrees?

So this sniper killed me with crit kukri, while he was so far away I was shooting him with amby.
I called bullshit in chat and someone replied
"He threw it"
/also, what's the point of jag's damage penalty when every single hit is crit?

Lag compensation.
Melee weapons are basically really short range versions of hitscan guns (like the pistol or shotgun). It doesn't matter whether the swing animation connects or not, as soon as you click the mouse (unless swing speed is reduced by the weapon itself's stats), the game compares your pings for lag compensation and then takes that to see if you hit the other person or not. If the two people start moving in opposite directions or one is moving backwards, melee weapons can appear to have a retardedly long range.

Best informative post about TF2 I've ever seen.

But I Jarate and then chase after backpedaling Spies, swinging with my Bushwhacka at close range, while they unload a clip of their (usually Enforcer) primary into me, and they always win
Also of note is that a Pyro moving backwards has a longer flame trail than a Pyo moving forward or sideways, and therefore has the advantage in any situation where you're the one being chased (by Demoknight, Equalizer soldier, anything, really). Not only is the flamethrower sort of true to its real life counterpart (which is probably just a side effect of the way the game handles it), but when you fire (repeated several times for however long you hold the mouse down), a sort of puff-like thing shoots forward out of the thrower, and anything that touches the puff of fire is set alight and afterburn damage begins.
However, the puff doesn't move as fast as you do, which means you often end up outrunning your own flame jettison if you're moving at full speed, which in turn means you won't win very many Pyro flamethrower duels. The best thing you can do is wait for the other Pyro to start running at you, and then backpedal, so he runs forward INTO your flames, but you outrun his because you're moving faster backwards.

This explains so many failed Pyro deaths.
My pyro-fight strategy is to backpedal and try to get around corners and make them walk through my flames while remaining mostly untouched by theirs. I've sort of grown used to it, it's second nature.

Today does not seem a good day for TF2. Joined FPUK, map changes to Hightower. As we push our cart onwards, the other team was just kind of...absent. A couple popped out of spawn every now and then, but were quickly dispatched before I even saw them near the cart I was pushing. At one point we were passing by their spawn, and a Demoman pops out with the Half-Zatochi. I can't resist a challenge, so I take out my own, but a Scout kills him before I can reach him. So, stuck with my sword out, I look through a window and see a Soldier coming out of spawn. Being a Ninja, I loudly accuse him of being a Spy through the glass and jump at him as he exits his base, giving him a chop round the face. I'm sorta expecting to die at this point, so I just stand there. Soldier backs up a bit and feebly fires a couple of point-blank rockets at me with his Direct Hit, all of them Directly Miss. Not really feeling triumphant, I pounce back at him and give him three more chops as he flees to the resupply.
We got our cart to the top of the tower before their cart even moved at all. There were about six people on each team.
Next round, there's an autobalance. And as you can guess, me and a combat engineer are shunted to the other team. Bad times. I gracelessly hurl a bunch of sticky bombs at the enemy cart as it trundles on and miss a lot with my Grenade Launcher. I jump down to take out a Soldier running towards their cart and suddenly find myself face to face with the entire enemy team. As Scout charges me and Soldier shells me and Pyro just kinda runs about, I narrowly avoid a enemy Spy sneaking up behind me. Dodging to the left, I take some needles to the side and I see even Medic's getting in on the action. I run up the stairs (a second Spy approaching from the other side cloaking disappointedly and fleeing) and suddenly two friendly Spies appear right in the middle of the whole thing and run about flailing their knives. That was the sole redeeming moment of the match.
I try to stick some more bombs on their cart, but then Pyro appears and I leap just out of range of his fire, and then land right in front of the scattergun of a enemy Scout behind me. Pyro proceeds to try and burn me and a Soldier as we respawn. I lob a couple of rage grenades at him, then leave by another exit. Our cart has moved about a meter during the whole match, though the enemy have pushed their one just out of the way of the battle then forgotten about it. I decide to try pushing just to make it seem like I put up a fight, then I notice Scout, frozen. I charge at him spewing horribly aimed grenades, and promptly crash.
You ever have one of those days?

If you lose to anyone while running the ultra cheap Bushwhacka-Jarate combo you need to just stop playing.

Oh are you really pulling this shit again
This is a game/lag compensation issue, not a skill issue. Also, exaggeration. I generally realize that the game has decided that I'm not going to be able to hit anything and fall back before getting killed.
If you're an elitist prick you need to just stop playing.

I believe it has something to do with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_effect
There's a set speed of flame coded in source engine, that could be considered "speed of sound"

Of course, flames don't spread in all directions like sound does, but at least you can compare flame size when backpedaling and charging.

I can't remember where I've heard this before, but it's very true. Pyro is my least played class but when I do play it, I find myself killing a lot other Pyros that foolishly chase me.
But usually I figure it's even better to just switch to shotgun unless they're already right next to me.
Lag Compensation is a curious, fickle thing.
While playing on Foundry the other day a fellow Pyro was chasing a backpedaling Spy of the enemy team. He retreated right into me, and as I go to react to this, while facing his back, while he is in front of me...
...he backstabs me.
While his back is to me.
In front of me.
...what the hell, Valve?
I just assume Spies have a instant death radius of 10 units around them when fighting them.

The other day (also on Foundry, hmm funny goings on, there) I got FOUR backstabs on an engie --full animation and sound-- then a cwrench to the face while he never turned around, repairing his sentry.
"WHAT THE FUCK FUCK BALLS FCUKUNT?
...
Ping check... Engineer: 303 (and steady)
ARGH"
Man I should have saved that as a replay, try to see what the fuck happened.
Same thing happened several other times on the same engie when I stabbed, reflexively sapped and he got a wrench off shortly before freezing to death half a tick later.
Then they got three, yes three pyros to literally just stand by him and his stuff that was defending mid while they were attacking my last point.
So I sat on his dispenser and spammed voice commands in all the classes' voices...good times.

A similar thing happened to me in Halo (not TF2, I know, but realated nonetheless!)
I killed a guy with a beat down (Melees instakill from behind, hold the melee button for an assassination, the Halo equivalent of a tauntkill.) and he killed me with his shotgun after it fell. I checked, I saw, I knew. He killed me with a shotgun to the face from the grave. The worst part was I was already a good 10-15 feet from his dead body, and the shotgun fired away from me.

Don't worry, you're still a winner even if tf2r is down. Although never getting your item might suck.
