"Pricecheck on X, please." - Item Values Megathread - Games

If I craft a hat with 3 refined, I expect to get no less than 3 refined for it if I want to trade it, sadly, 95% of the trading community is retarded and sets a price for something that's all down to opinion.

Can I get a price on the Chef's cap for pyro? Can't remember it's real name, sorry.

I like it when people think the hat-conomy is "broken" and "retarded" because things have values assigned to them. Why does a Vintage Tyrolean have a higher value than a Hard Counter? Because the Tyrolean is more desirable - more people think it looks cool than they do the Hard Counter, thus its demand is greater. This pushes its value up. The economy IS down to opinions, and the general opinion of the community is that a Vintage Tyrolean is a better-looking hat than a Hard Counter. As to the "hats=3 refined" thing - the "rebuild headgear" recipe requires 2 hats, which gives you the chance to craft a hat. So, this chance to craft a hat is worth 3 refined, and 1 chance=any 2 craftable hats. Therefore, a random craftable hat should be worth 1.5 refined, which is much more like what they're actually traded for.

Yeah if you're trying to make profit, crafting hats is generally a pretty bad idea.

I'm not trying to make profit at all.

Not everything is an even deal. Drive a car off the lot, it's instantly worth less. Go sell it, it's worth less than you bought it for. Also, there are TV shows about guys who go around and bid on abandoned storage units all over the country. If you bid three refined on one and only get a Coupe, well, that sucks for you, you took a chance. If you bid three refined on one and get a Teddy Roosebelt, you're in the goddamn money and that's great.
