Same here. It's not like he's forcing you to become a premium member. The most basic use of the site, which I'm comfortable using is still available without having to become a premium member.
It's the concept that someone would blow their money for something as stupid as that
They could use the money for so many better things, food, water, taxes, games, giving it to me etc
It's 5$ a month. That's like a subway sandwich a month.
I already saw the benefits, but why would I want to receive an email about a stupid little grouping of polygons?
we dont like hats because they are made out of polygons, we like them because they are rare and pretty. stfu
I'd do it if it was a one time fee... But recurring charge, no thanks.
You could probably do this and more with an item manager.

Ok, I'll stop doing the slash thing.

and automerging excessively.

This. I don't want to keep up a subscription just to check on items.
And since I gave up idling, this would really only be worth it if I went back to idling.
Though I will admit, this would be a very nice thing to have for idlers. Back when I idled, I used to check my backpack all the time from class. It got frustrating when I realized the site didn't update it very quickly.
Just use the google chrome extension... For free...
Just use the google chrome extension... For free...
The Chome extension only updates as often as DF's site updates.
One word comes to mind. Why?
Most pointless thing ever only retards would do this
5$ that's bullshit
One word comes to mind. Why?
Two possible reasons: He's either looking for ways to keep the site going, or he wants to make a few extra bucks from all his hard work.
Neither one is really wrong, in my opinion. Besides, you don't have to use it if you don't want to. If I was still idling, I'd do it just to support his work; you have to admit that tf2items.com has been one of the most useful tools we've gotten since the drop system came out.

yeah that selfish bastard, trying to earn money so he can keep his website going
they're not cheap y'know, especially with how many people visit it every day
This is just pointless.
This isnt right. I wish Robin said no to this or valve tried something to step in to prevent this paying shit. Although its optional, it seems like DF is exploiting really addicted kids that we know are out their, that are gonna buy this. Shouldnt be making profit off a community addition to TF2. He got a knife thats good enough.
People are idiots to spend money on gameservers, so why not on this?
They gotta try and make money any way they can.

You forget that this is far from free for him. He has to pay money to keep the site running, and with the huge amount of traffic it gets on a daily basis, especially with tools like the Chrome Extension drawing info from it, it's probably become difficult for him to keep it running without ads. You can't blame him for wanting a little help from the community, and besides: it's optional. You don't have to do it and if the benefits are as "useless" as most of you are claiming, then you aren't going to be missing anything anyway.
Why is it so wrong for DF to offer benefits to people who give him money? He's done a great service to the whole community and until now he's been doing it out of his own pocket. Everybody was just fine and complacent with how the site is at the moment, and now he offers extra functionality to paying users that nobody even cared about before. So what? It's optional. It just sounds like the classic "I'm not going to pay for this because it should be free!" argument.
No, i mean i get what he is doing and is just trying to support his site and everything. No i do not think it should be free either. Its just sorta weird seeing this being applied to a community contribution, i mean only 5$ isnt a lot. If it was like 15 i would actually think their is a legitimate problem with this.
Paying for something each month just so I can know what in-game items I have? that's so stupi-
oh wait I play WoW.

I was more directing my post at everyone whining about it, actually. Guess I should've said something along those lines.
It may be pointless but hey, if the website can be kept alive, that's good.
Though a donation link perhaps may be a good idea since it doesn't carry the connotation of paying for more
Is it just me or did tf2items use to update more than once an hour? (It hasn't been doing that recently, but I can't remember seeing the "The item data was loaded from cache. Cached X minutes ago" with X being over 30).
Is it just me or did tf2items use to update more than once an hour?
It seemed really random to me. Sometimes it would be like 1-10 minutes. Sometimes 30 mins and sometimes around an hour.
Drunken Fool
I cant wait to get texts messages about finding a back burner.
I'm suprised this wasn't done sooner.
The site must cost a fair bit to maintain, and besides, $5 a month comes to just $60 a year. I know people who do dumber things with their money like buy cancer sticks or junk food or some useless stuff. Hell, I spend at least that much per month on useless stuff for my house. I'm not sure why people are so het up when DF isn't actually poining a gun to your head and making you subscribe.
ITT Drunk F00l provides the community with all sorta shit and he asks for a bit of help and suddenly everyone's calling him a money grubbing whore.
I don't see a problem here, quick way to make money from a bunch of tools.
We must give this man what he wants!
^ yeah? well i don't have a credit card even if i did this is really pointless if its for 1 month if it was permanent i would aleardy given 5$
Sad thing is I bet people will still buy it.
Why is that sad?
