Yeah, idling 24/7 does earn one lots and lots of cashe.
I'm also obligated to point out that both of the premium features DF is offering are already available on tf2stats. Amusingly I rolled out the email updates the same day he did, and it's no real secret that you can update a cached profile > 1min by adding '/reload' at the end of the URL.
That being said...
According to what I've read on his forums, tf2items.com holds roughly 22gb of data in a mysql database.
For reference, that database wouldn't even fit on the raw unformatted partition tf2stats' server runs off.
My ENTIRE DATABASE doesn't even amass to 300mb.
That should give you an idea of just how much data DF is handling, and why his hosting bills are significantly larger than the average tf2 site.
This is why I support regular users of tf2items to donate a bit and cover his bills. The premium features are simply a way for DF to give a little something back to people who step up and donate a bit. There's nothing really game changing about it.
