It's not about Valve making a snow map. It's the fact that glacier has lost its uniqueness.
Well, that was sorta going to happen inevitably. Still, what Glacier loses in uniqueness, it gains in pure beautiful execution.

In my oppinion viaduct looks nicer than glacier, its more tf2ish and smooth, exactly what i wanted to see in glacier for ages but ace refused to change it, besides you can still be happy you are first one to actually make a snow map.
get your ass to optimising it now :)

Wait, what?
I'm still open for suggestions, and I will of course use Valve's snow assets to improve glacier's look.
Theft is a Dish Best Served Cold...
Do you know how hard it is to make it that way?

Fuck me.
I deserve all the boxes.

Thanks!
I love Glacier and I appreciate all the amazing work you put into it, but come on...it was kind of whiny and self-centered to say that all that work was completely done in just because Valve thought of the same thing. If anything, you should've been happy that official, more TF2-like features will get put into Glacier to make it a better map. That's exactly what I thought when I first saw Viaduct, really; "Wow, an official snow map! I hope Acegikmo gets on this as soon as it comes out!" This is just like when that one guy was making 2fort Rainy and suddenly Valve announced an official rainy map. He didn't get mad; he was happy that there would be better, official rain to use to make the map better.
It was a really smooth move on Valve's part to put direct mention of you in there, though. They pay a lot more attention to the community than you might think and they really do care. :)

AFAIK the guy didn't make textures for everything in the rainy 2fort. And it doesn't take 3 months to put rain on an official map.

Making 2fort rainy takes 3 hours, while making a snow theme took me months.
I was whining because Valve told me they'd try glacier and give me feedback. A month later they release their own snow map with their snow assets and still didn't contact me about glacier.
The thing is, I was really excited about the snow theme I developed, because I was finally able to make a map that's easy to recognise, which makes people more drawn to it and actually try it out. However, when Valve releases a snow theme, everyone will make a snow themed map. It's like when lumberyard was released. Tons of new alpine style maps popped up, and the same will happen with this winter theme.
I hope you understand why I was pissed off when the uniqueness of the theme of glacier was completely ruined, when I spent so much time perfecting it.
But now that I know that Valve truly noticed glacier, I'm hoping they will consider releasing it as a community map once I've detailed it some more with their new snow assets :)

Oh damn. See, I didn't know that part. I thought you said earlier you sent them tons of e-mails about Glacier but they never responded.

Yeah, there was three mails in total.
The first one was about the theme, without any reply.
The second one was the beta version, without any reply.
The latest mail was about the release candidate, where they said they would test it and give feedback.
Anyway, I'm going to bed. Night!

Yeah, but hardly any community alpine maps are notable. I think as long as your map plays well it will stay popular, but if not it wasn't really a good idea to market the theme as the main selling point.

Three Emails? About trying to get your OWN map a community map?
How modest you are.

Considering someone sent him a fake e-mail about becoming a community map when it was done...
Three Emails? About trying to get your OWN map a community map?

Yeah, I don't think you understand how community maps become officially inducted, Ace. Community maps become inducted into the game if they're played a lot and acclaimed by other users. The creator alone saying that the map is great and deserves to be an official community map goes against the whole idea of it being a community map. It takes time, but if your map is great enough to be recognized, then it'll get there. Your map isn't even in its final version yet. You need to rely on the word of the community to get your map along, and until then only hope for it to be seen as a great map in the eyes of the community, not Valve. You're setting your expectations too high otherwise.
Of course, I'm not saying your map isn't deserving of official recognition. I'd love to see it be made official, honestly. You just need to be a bit more modest and work toward different goals. Your map isn't the only map I've been wanting to see Valve pick up (lookin' at you, Dustbowl (Payload) and Frontier), so don't think you're the only one either.

I didn't tell Valve to make glacier a community map. I only asked them to try it out and perhaps even give me professional feedback from them (Since they've got quite a few skilled level designers there).

It's not always the community that makes a map popular for it to be released as a community map. For example, I hadn't even heard of cp_egypt. I had never seen cp_junction being played and the same with arena_watchtower.
The only community maps which appears to have been chosen in the way you described is ctf_turbine (Which was pupolar among competitive players), cp_steel (Which was a popular map on a few public servers) and pl_hoodoo (Which was also popular on public servers).
And of course I'm not the only mapper who wants his/her map to be made official. Every single mapper out there wants it, and many do deserve it.
Just to name a few; Frontier, Yukon, Furnace, Freight and many others.
I haven't pushed Valve about making glacier official and I never will. The only thing I have asked them is to play it and let me know what they think of it. :)
Freight is fairly outdated, and a lot of people don't seem to like the new version as much as the old one. Not to mention fishbus is working for a different game design company so valve adding his map would count as moonlighting :v:
Frontier I'd say is played enough (plus it just doesn't seem to fit in with TF2 very well). The only maps that I know of and would expect to get added as official are furnace, yukon and glacier. And honestly, I'd rather have glacier because it's a new theme and an actually fun map to play. Yukon feels kind of... messy. And furnace just feels flat and boring.
SO ANYWAY hows about the next RC, you gonna be trying to do some competitive playtests?
no map from youme deserves to be official, he's the biggest prick out there

Here post the second part again so that I can agree with you twice.
SO ANYWAY hows about the next RC, you gonna be trying to do some competitive playtests?
The only thing I have planned is to add Valve's snow theme onto glacier to make it look better and maybe add the environment light from Viaduct as well.
I'll probably look into changing the way the timer works. Right now, it's maxed out at 6 minutes. A and B each add 4.5 minutes to the timer, but is then cut down to 6 minutes.
For example; The timer is initially set at 6 minutes. If blue then capture A after 1 minute, they will only get one minute added to the total time. If they capture it after 5 minutes, they'll get the full 4,5 minutes from the cap added to the timer.
This was added simply to prevent steamrolling.
The problem with this system is that it doesn't reward the blue team for capturing a point faster; they just lose potential time they could have used later on.
It's even more apparent in competitive play.
It's a tough one to solve. Removing the max time limit would give blue a major advantage if they capture A or B quickly.
what
I love Glacier.
