The idler was talked about on all game forums, how could you not have heard about it?
Not everyone goes on games forums, you know. There are a lot of people that play tf2 just to play tf2.
Lol, why did you cheat in the first place.
Who?
It was also talked about on a lot of TF2 servers.
You might not realise this, but most of the tf2 players actually just play tf2 and don't give two shits about the rest of it.
Agreed. They clash with everything TF2, and for me they only mark a reminder that VALVE fucked me over, whilst others nag me about cheating that I never did.
They really don't.
I thought with everyone running around with a halo it was hilarious.
And I'm thinking they're clashing with everything for you because bolded
No, that would be stupid. That's rewarding the idlers. You guys don't deserve shit.
Yet without us you wouldn't have your little gay halo.

I think he means he didn't idle but still got punished, so it's a reminder to him about how he really deserves a halo.
VALVe fucked up.
The community is almost irrevocably divided now. It's idlers vs. moralists now, and there's not much they can do to change it.
Let's be frank: A good chunk of TF2 players don't know or care about this nonsense. They just woke up to a halo one day and were like "What the hell is this? Oh well I got a free thing." The problem is that the ones who do know almost invariably argue amongst each other.
I idled. I didn't think of it as cheating. It really didn't occur to me that Valve would decide it qualified as cheating. It just allowed me to actually have a chance at getting hats without using up all my RAM running TF2 in the background.
Yes, I know hats don't do anything, but so what? They look cool. I wish people wouldn't act all superior because you care about cool-yet-useless things and they don't.
I don't like it when people get all haughty about not idling. "You should have known it's cheating," "it's against the EULA," "haha i told u idling is for faggots." When you start saying things like that, of course people who idled are going to defend themselves.

2 weeks.
Give it 2 weeks. And I reckon this "irrevocable" damage will be gone.
It may take longer, but it will disappear. Like how medal whining got old in about a week.

I'm sure the flame wars will subside and it'll stop being such a big topic before long, but the core resentment won't go away.
People still come out of the woodwork to complain about sleeping through the medal giveaway. It's not as prevalent anymore, but it's still there. The Cheater's Lament will be the same way.
[editline]08:58AM[/editline]
And I'll be honest, the idlers are in the wrong, too. I'm not so upset about the "FAG" skins, because they're kind of funny, but things like Healers Against Halos are taking it too far.
Getting the halos removed would cause even more uproar.
Getting a hat as a reward, then having it taken away because those who did not deserve the reward complained, well, I can't see how this would not turn into a rage fest.
Give the halo wearers a free random hat, just to end the retarded discrimination.
That would have been a better reward instead of the halos.
Some people are mad that Valve called people who idled, "immoral."
It's like we've forgotten Valve sense of humor over blind rage.
People just bitch about it cause they dont have it.
Coconuts are a good source of protein
You're simultaneously implying that the halo is both shit yet desirable.
Pick an argument, any argument.
It's shit to him?
It's shit to him?
Alright, maybe, but it's still stupid. Nobody using that program ever had intentions to help other people.
And the halo is shit. He's right in that respect.

No no no. you take it away because those who did get the reward started acting all elitist
/Optimistic
But all this halo "racism" (or "itemism") is really stupid

i agree
I hope to fucking God some time in the future Valve learns that random awarding of ultra-rare items is a bad fucking idea.
I also hope that they implement trading and item crafting because it's fucking stupid without them.

if you take it away it's like giving candy to someone then taking it away.
Usually when a healer heals me when they have a halo, I whip out my good friend the book
:sax:
I don't care about all of this idling drama, but I'm not fond of many of the hats in general. This one's a distracting visual element that only makes sense in terms of said drama, so I hope to see them eventually disappear.
I don't think Halos should stay forever, unless people start treating them normally again.
i don't care about halos anymore it's the halo owners that annoy me getting all"you cheated!"
yeah i idled only got natascha then decided it sucked now i get blamed
I find it funny that so far i've seen more people wihout halos than people with them.
I think they need.
Seriously. Even despite the fact they divided the community, almost all players have it.
What's the sence? Some people didn't deserve even a halo, because they didn't even know about idling. They thought they find that "unique hat" by themselves and bragging a lot about it.
What's the point of everybody wearing it? No point. It's not unique.
Better make some punishment for idlers, nor than giving away halos to EVERYBODY, even those guys who didn't know about idling. They did nothing.
It's not unique, but people rage and divide over it, ban people, cause trolling and so on.
Think it's need to be removed, and added an in-game punishment for idlers.
Something like "The cheater's seal", horns, or dunce hats. It may decrease their attributes, such as health, speed, ammo, e.t.c.
The halo is just a stupid idea.
What's wrong with you, Valve?
I think they should've removed the Idler's weapons, given everyone Halos, and if people idle again, take their halo away.
