I'll be updating OP with a ton of information today. If anyone would like to contribute (banners, pre-typed tutorials, video tutorials etc) please do. I'll be starting with crap i've already got on the SFM blog and be adding the bit that wrote about custom maps. I wrote it up at school because i had extra time my exams =P [editline]edit[/editline] I have finished updating OP, check it out!
Whipped up a quick banner heading for the op.
It does not work :saddowns: [editline]03:37PM[/editline] This started when I tried to export as .avi and SFM crashed.
No no no, don't use the export AVI option. Export TGAs and use VirtualDub to compile them together.
I wish I knew how to get custom animations into this.
I wish I knew how to get custom animations into this.
Same. Is there a good tutorial on how to replace the talker VCDs with custom ones?
Same. Is there a good tutorial on how to replace the talker VCDs with custom ones?
Currently, it is impossible to get VCD's in. We have teams working around the clock to sort out this issue. Please stay tuned.

Ban for what?
Ban for what?
I guess it's warez or something.
I guess it's warez or something.
1. Buy and install Team Fortress 2. 2. Extract the contents of "Team Fortress 2 Materials.gcf" 3. Install VTF Shell Extensions. 4. Sort out all .vmts that are 7.4. 5. Make a listing of them with a directory printer. Thanks, though.

I set up the game and am able to get into the game itself just fine, but when I set up the HL2.exe shortcut, I get the following error:
Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'hl2'. Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting.
I followed all the directions exactly as they specified. I tried all the different combinations of things like -novid -applaunch 440 and -tools that I could find but none worked. halp?

Well I got the halloween taunt to play in the beta by replacing taunts and editing a script file. Have to run off to work now but I'll try and get on the web and update from there. So people, looks like we have VCD files working! :D
I got it sort of working. I launch it with the hl2.exe shortcut and it loads and then this pops up: http://i49.tinypic.com/27xp94k.jpg As soon as I click anything hl2.exe crashes. The shortcut looks like this:
"G:\Games\tf2beta\Team Fortress 2\hl2.exe" -game tf -applaunch 440 -window -noborder -novid -tools
You installed the tool .dlls right?
Okay. At the moment the steps to get a vcd file working are a little long winded but this is what I managed to do to get mine going. Excuse any odd formating and spelling, I'm on my cellphone. 1. Open your normal tf2 content gcf and extract everything in tf/scenes to your non-beta team fortress/tf/scenes folder. 2. Open faceposer and make your scene. Save in your normal tf/scenes directory. 3. Go to 'file' then choose 'Rebuild scenes.image'. 4. Copy scenes.image from non-beta tf2/tf/scenes and your custom vcd to your tf2 beta/tf/scenes folder. If you are using a custom animation or your scene uses animations not in the beta then back up your player models in tf2 beta/tf/models/player and copy the new models across from the gcf or your compiled versions. 5. Open tf2 beta/tf/scripts/talker/tf.txt and find the taunt you want to replace. Most taunts use several vcd files which the game cycles through. Just comment out the old ones with // in front of each line to deactivate them and make a new line imitating the others but pointing to your vcd. 6. Open sfm and record your scene as normal. Taunt with the correct weapon and character selected to play your vcd. Then you can alter the position of your character by using the animation set editor to change the roottransform bone of the actor. Ill put up some more later after I experiment with this some more.
