for my first vid, i exported to tga, and put everything in virtualdub uncompressed, got something around 1 gig. Realizing how huge it was and how long it would take to upload to youtube, i redid the virtual dub part with xvid and it shrunk to 9mb xD

You mean like in 3DSM or something? There arn't any steam programs to create simple 3D items are there?
You guys should try downloading Lagerith lossless codec and try rendering from the program with that, I'm on Windows 7 beta 64bit and rendering worked fine for me, got an AVI file with sound
I'd love to try this out. I'm still trying to find it ;)

Then read through some more to find out how to get it to work correctly.

I'd say Valve's version allows them to actually create models in the editor and animate them from there. You can make your own 3D models, but you'd need to make them in an external program like 3DSMax (as you said) and find a way of spawning them in game. You could use ent commands, I believe they work for spawning.
Animations are not made in SFM but in maya, they use SFM to make posing for update pages or small corrections in animations and changing postures.
ARGH!!!
Worked fine the first 2 days, but now I'm getting the problem some others have.
It exports really quickly, going to 100% but only doing about the first 5 frames of the video, then goes past 100% and a minus remaining time with a black screen. Videos don't/partially play.
What do I do??
Has anyone managed to get this working in DoD or Garrysmod?
Has anyone managed to get this thing to run anything other than TF2 classes?

What is the time range you're trying to export?
Where are you exporting the footage?
What are you exporting your footage as?

Nope, that involves editing the client.dll file I believe.

start time 0.000 End time 21.458
Users/myuserare\tf2filmmaker\ (in other words, not local disk)
.avi at the moment, did the same thing with .tga as well.
1080p and 720p do the same.
Full motion blur
thanks
Try exporting WAV only, and then TGA only. Right after you start it, check that folder and see if any TGA files show up.
Just done the WAV, it says it cant play due to an unspecified error. Soldiered onto the TGA's anyway, and they seem to be exporting fine, but the 100% thing is still happening in SFM.
Don't worry about the timer. As long as all your frames are exporting correctly, you're fine. Earlier in this thread I posted an image of mine saying 85 hours for 30 seconds of footage, and it ended up only taking 3.
If the WAV is still acting up, you could try exporting an AVI movie that's 10px-10px with no progression refinement, and then strip the audio from it.
I think it's gonna work this way!
Thanks, this has been annoying me for days.
Just an update on the steam group, We now have 51 members. We still need people to join.

Please stop spamming your link all over Youtube comments for SFM videos, including mine. Valve isn't going to release it until the rest of the class videos are out.

Yes indeed.
Cool

What the fuck, I don't have a youtube account. :tinfoil:
Meh, If it gets me more members I don't care if someone did that. :smug:
You not gonna accomplish anything by creating a group and getting members, it is all over L4D2 boycott scenario.

There's a difference between boycotting them to not release a game and them releasing a tool. If we get enough people to join then Valve will see that we want it released. mkay? :v:

Yeah, because things like this work every time, right?

It's worth a shot. :v:
If you don't know 'Thursday' in Valve's time means never.

Ah, My bad. Wasn't thinking Valve time. That's another reason.
1."After the meet the team videos are done"

That's a terrible example but we want them to know we want the tool. If ya get what I mean.

it won't change their minds, they know a lot of people want it. They also know a lot of people want to see meet the pyro and medic. Releasing this would probably cause people to create their own second rate versions of these.
It's worth a shot. :v:
They know we want it and they want to release it. Can't you be patient?

They know we want the tool.. They knew for a LONG time, even before it was leaked.
