Ok cool. Also if that ever got in game it's gonna be a boston basher reskin ; - ;
Hopefully Valve won't make it a re-skin of the Boston Basher.
How's that?
This could work
Hopefully Valve won't make it a re-skin of the Boston Basher.
It looks too similar to the Boston Basher which is also a scout weapon,so valve won't let it in :suicide: [sp]Make it for Sniper[/sp]
Wow, it's official. The positiveness of the response to my concept art posts is inversely proportional to my self-esteem when writing them. My first post here was when I arrived directly from SPUF, where idea-havers are plentiful and modelers are nearly nonexistent. The post was filled with apologetic disclaimers, and got a fuckbunch of win- and artisticvotes. By now, two of the concepts therein have been modeled, and people have offered to model three more of them. I gained some confidence and occasionally posted new concepts with less apologies attached (Psychotic hobo Santa set for Soldier, beatnik turtleneck for Spy, bodyguard set for Heavy), and those got more or less ignored. Of my in my opinion aesthetically coolest three ideas (Firewood axe and enamel mask for Pyro, salad fork for Spy) two only got dumbvoted and one just got pinky-related comments. When I now posted a shoddily drawn pic of a meh-y concept, I got winvoted within seconds. Soo.. I am the lowest of living creatures, unworthy of the dirt in which I crawl. Does anyone feel like modeling this?
That's how I felt when I started modelling. Felt like I was basically having a shit and turning it into polygons. I feel a bit better about it now :D
It looks too similar to the Boston Basher which is also a scout weapon,so valve won't let it in :suicide: [sp]Make it for Sniper[/sp]
The idea here, if Valve were to accept it (yeah, I'm not that great) is that it's a lightweight ball bat with nails, not a heavy mace or sword, so Scout could actually use it without nailing himself in the face. Here's some example stats I like, but I doubt you will, nor will Valve: On Hit: Bleed for x secs. x = Consecutive Hits - 15% Damage [editline]26th December 2011[/editline] Also, what do you guys think about this?
This could work

How's that?
Gettin' better
The bat doesn't need team colors.
Here's some example stats I like, but I doubt you will, nor will Valve: On Hit: Bleed for x secs. x = Consecutive Hits - 15% Damage
I don't really know how balanced those stat would be, but it still kinda keeps the "Don't miss" mentality of the Boston Basher. (Not neccesarily a bad thing, just making an observation.) Although I imagine that if someone with very low lag was very good with melee, it could get a bit OP. Heavies being hit at full health and bleeding until they die.
The bat model needs to be less ugly and have better nails, damage, and proportions. Only then can you even begin to discuss the texture.
The bat model needs to be less ugly and have better nails, damage, and proportions. Only then can you even begin to discuss the texture.
Ouch
The bat model needs to be less ugly and have better nails, damage, and proportions. Only then can you even begin to discuss the texture.
Sparkwire always says what we are all thinking.

Still kinda meh, don't worry about the texture until your model is perfect. Right now it doesn't look like a baseball bat and your nails don't look like nails. The splinters don't look like splinters either.

I don't know if the splinters are necessary..
... "You should add splinters." "Why did you add splinters?" "Those nails look great." "Those nails are shit." "It's a great baseball bat!" "That doesn't look anything like a baseball bat." "The texture needs paint." "Fuck that texture, restart the whole goddamn model." And now you understand why I hate your criticism. I put hard work into something, you tell me to make changes to the model and after said changes, you say they're great. Then you tell me to scrap the whole fucking project after all this time I've spent working on it. That is bullshit. EDIT: Also I noticed a bandwagon effect because Sparkwire said something. Can't form your own opinion without brony saying something first? Nice fanclub, Sparky.
So i went to see some workshop items.. And then i read the comments.. Everyone is suggesting weapon stat ideas and they are all
HORRIBLE
, fucking horrible!

Also, sparkwire's blunt as a sledgehammer.
Here's my opinion of the bat: Bat is goodish, but it should be bigger at the end. Nails are ok. Splinters, however, are not. Make them smaller/remove them. Texture does not fit TF2. At least the wood doesn't. If you MUST have team colors in the texture: use balaclava on the tape/cloth/whatever the handle has. Overall, it's good, but just does not really fit in tf2 right now.

And the fact that he likes ponies shouldn't be of your concern... He just said what everyone was thinking anyways.

Nice fanclub, Sparky.
Sometimes people don´t want to tell you that things because they don´t want to hurt your feelings or they are shy. When someone finally tells everything, they get enough confidence to support him/her, and even more if that person is a well recognised modeler. We know it´s hard to scrap a whole model, but think that the work always remains as experience, and your next model will be quicker and better
Can't form your own opinion without brony saying something first? Nice fanclub, Sparky.
Because his avatar and projects have so much to do with his criticism, right? From what I can observe and Constructor implied above, Sparkwire is often blunt and can thus collect ratings from people that otherwise would not have wanted to be that blunt to someone that has put a lot of effort into his project. But giving a rating is easier than being "the dick". And often more anonymous because people tend to look at the numbers more often than at the list of people. I don't really think anyone changed their opinion because of Sparkwire, he's a polarizing contributor in this thread at best. You can put up rating polls and decide for yourself how highly you value those people's opinions and reactions. If the results are confusing, that's a fair reason to be upset about, but you should try to figure out why it turned out like that, not try to solve your problem by ad hominem on someone who's giving honest feedback.
