You didn't necessarily need to mark seams for the top part of the hat, but it doesn't look too bad for a first time unwrap honestly.
Those cylinders can share the same UV unless you plan on putting something different on each one of them.
Um... did Valve screw up Scout animations? It seems to me the world weapon_bone and view weapon_bone are aligned differently, making the c_item melee weapons align improperly.

Yeah I made all the cylinders the same, except the one on the front of the hat, the little ones will just be silver, while the big one will be silver the scouts class logo on it.

Then you should just unwrap one cylinder out of the little three, delete the other two, and just duplicate the one you unwrapped and move them into position.

Just make sure none of the vertices in the islands are overlapping, otherwise you'll get really horrible AO bakes.

Not really, you have a lot of free space, you're meant to waste as little as possible, ideally no more than roughly 20%

It's a rule of thumb for everything. Any type of modeling you want to make sure your unwrap uses as much of the available space as possible. If you're only using around 50% or so of the space on a 512x512, then your unwrap isn't very efficient at all.
