no, vintage items are not obtainable, you could only have your items become vintage if you had them before the mann co. update.

It was likely a server backlog from a while ago.

That happened to me, too. I think if part of your time for that item was logged before the update, the item you find is a vintage one. But after that, you don't get any more vintage items.
I guess sometimes the 'give item' event happens on Valve's servers, but your computer doesn't get the message until later.
