It's obvious Valve is starting to dive in for more cash as of late, these micro transactions(which I don't mind), and this account disabling thing, they're hoping idiots would rebuy games for a new steam account to get more money.
There is no other reason for such a harsh punishment of little virtual trinkets.
And of course all the other game companies who's games are on your disabled account wont mind, because that means you get to have to buy their game as well again!
I acted as a fence for a scammer.
He scammed a sola topi, I kept it, then I traded it off.
This is pretty much the same punishment for steam scammers of any type.
Apparently if you're making a lot of purchases than usual you get flagged for faud and gets your account temp. disabled
If this happens just go to steam support and proved you authorized those purchases.
Looks like Neuf got his acc back, he's on steam again.
But all his shit is cleared, http://www.tf2b.ather-tech.net/?id=doughead
Everyone says 'It's so harsh, I would never scam if I could get my account disabled'.. but thats the point. People take advantage of these things, so Valve deals with it.
(incoming cooldog)
Meh.
You know what you're getting yourself into when you scam.
People who don't scam have nothing to worry about. It's not an automatic system.
I saw my name on SPUF about some bitch complaining that I scammed a hat. But what happened was we traded, he didn't like the hat, and wanted it back.
Pretty sure the account disablement is temporary while they remove your items. You're not losing any money.
Too harsh imo, but I can't say that I have any sympathy for you.
The most they should do is disable TF2 from your games list.
IMO any kind of punishment for "scammers" is bullshit. Seriously. Who in their right fucking mind would just give a hat to some random stranger and hope to get it back? Well it seems i've been greatly underestimating the stupidity of some people. And why the hell would Valve disable an account possibly worth hundreds of € just because the person managed to trick someone into giving them a COMPLETELY FREE ITEM?
I think Valve should just add a warning to trades that says the trades you make are your own responsibility and there's nothing you can do to get the items back. That way people can't come crying everywhere and beg someone to fix their fuckup.
Some people just need to get burned so they can stop being the gullible fucktards they are.

Its stupid IMO. Why not just reset their hole inventory and stats. I hate when idiots ARE STUPID ENOUGH TO TRADE SOMETHING THEY LOVE AWAY. THEY FUCKING PRESSED THAT BUTTON SO ITS FAIR AND SQUARE. God i hate when someone loses THEIR FUCKING STEAM ACCOUNT OVER A DUMB IDIOT WHO TRADED HIS SHIT AWAY

I think that if you're not a dishonorable cunt who like to scam people, you have nothing to be afraid of.
Only if you're a dishonorable cunt who becomes notorious for making other people's gaming experiences unpleasant, will Valve disable your account for the greater good. So unless you like to sympathize with, or if you are a notoriously miserable and dishonest cunt who likes to make other people's gaming experiences unpleasant, you have nothing to worry about.
Valve has lost all my fucking respect. Im sorry but when some fag trades a fucking crate for a level 1 item ITS THEIR FAULT. THEY SAID THEY WANTED TO TRADE IT. ITS NOT VALVES FUCKING PROBLEM. NOR IS IT YOUR's
Scamming's not worth it.
People also need to learn that there is no automatic system, and not many people have been banned yet.
In a letter posted from Valve, they disputed the common myth that there was an automatic system. They have only disabled about 10 users, these users were first researched and found to have been scamming several users from items. They also said that they are only looking for real scams, and do not consider "bad trades" as scams.

You still didnt said what you did exactly that considered a scam by valve, there may be people who would like to know what NOT to do.

Whats with your butthurt about scammers? When you were 4 some old dude promiced you candy and fooled to suck his dick? Valve are doing this cause of money and only for them. And the whole argument about "making someone ingame feel unpleasant" sounds like total garbage, since its only with game features, no 3d party programms involved. Following that logic Valve should perma ban all bug users too.

Uhh last time i checked i wasnt banned
Following that logic Valve should perma ban all bug users too.
They have in the past. Anyone recall that sourcemod exploit that made it look like you were "speedhacking"? The chap was using it in a regular server and a valve employee happened to be playing in there and manually VAC banned him, his ticket was of course promptly denied.
I guess as these shenanigans go on and on you realize more and more that VALVe has a vice-grip on your balls and there ain't SHIT you can do about it.

I scammed 20 hats with my friend, telling them I would paint them for free.
You Imperial scum, that servers you right, you will rot in the deep dungeon with that lizard scum,he stole my apple!
To be honest disabling somebody's entire account because of taking advantage of other people's stupidity is way too harsh.

People who got scammed lost worthless pixels but people who got their accounts disabled lost potentially hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Judging by this post I'm sure Valve must be just devastated to not have the respect of the one and only TheSpy.
