The biff being that person A (the one with the 6 weapons) knows full well that person B (the person with the hat) could get more for their item, such as more items "actually useful to gameplay."

I have no idea how people fall for fake middle men. I mean if it's some guy with 10h in tf2 and barely any friends and profile comments or if his id doesnt match the one stated in a thread and talks like an illiterate idiot it's pretty clear that you shouldnt give him your burning team captain.

Yes, I suppose, it is OK in that case.
That's not what happens in about 90% of "profit trades", though.
Actually, more than once I've considered using a scanner to tell new-ish people who've got hats or promos how much their item is worth. Probably too much trouble, though.
