In total honesty, it's the only defined price of anything in TF2 I'm aware of. If there's something that represents prices better, feel free to let me know.

Even if your price makes sense, the guy willing to buy may not have the same common sense. I just see it as a way of standardizing prices in an economy that is relatively dependent on individual value and price guessing. Doesn't mean I value the hats I like any less, just that I know which ones I can make an easier profit on.
