They should have given the people who didn't use the idler a random hat instead, then we wouldn't have this idler vs anti-idler shit.
It's funny because it seems that the majority of Facepunch used the idler... however, on the two or three servers I played on tonight, most everyone got halos, though many don't sport them. So this talk of "It's pitted goody good good halos vs non-halo cheaters in game" isn't true for many servers. A lot of people tonight had no idea what was going on, they never read the blog or use the steam forums. No one was really opinionated on the whole issue.
They should have given the people who didn't use the idler a random hat instead, then we wouldn't have this idler vs anti-idler shit.
This. Then we wouldn't have the VGcats idiot accusing us of:
Playing without actually playing
while he's running a webcomic without actually running a webcomic.
I just waked up and what is this? Half of my items, gone!
I didn't use the idler, but I'm sorry for the ones who did. I don't call them dirty, evil cheaters, more like unlucky bastards :v:

I feel a little bit sorry for my brother, he just started Idling after seeing me do it, and now he lost a ton of stuff. He had just started playing since the Medic update, so he didn't have anything in the first place. And now Valve has gone and taken what he had (very little) away.
Op your post is well thought out, but it overlooks a major point. The idler program sent false information to steam servers. That is most likely the reason they made the punishment so harsh and sudden. If you can send false info to make it think you are running a program when you are not, there is a good chance that it is possible to do that in other ways maybe even severe as a game unlocker which would put Valve in serious legal trouble. The message that valve probably wanted to send was to not ever try to mess with steam servers in any way, and that message was accentuated by the giving of halos to those who did not use the idler.
Many beautiful words
OP, you and I are a lot alike. I think I like you.... ...uh, whoever you are. I've never seen you before.

This is all serious bullshit and everyone needs to just chill and shut up about halos and idle crap. I do agree with OP however. Just play the game.
