the amendments to the ELUA, about external programs were added just after the blog post, it was not against the rules prior to that.
Be that as it may, my point still stands.
Be that as it may, my point still stands.
Also, robin expressly stated that using the idler was not against the rules, your account would never be suspended, and nothing bad would happen, then he changed his mind without telling anyone.
i idled because i wanted a cosmetical item that made me stand out from the entire team, making me an individual and too look cool. i dont see idling as cheating, because i didn't want any of the weapons really, i just wanted one of those hard-to-get hats
You people can keep bawwwwing but it won't change anything.
They should just play the game and not idle at all.
They should just play the game and not idle at all.
What makes you think that just because you occasionally idle, you never actually play the game? I used to just put on the idler whenever I wasn't playing the game.
You people can keep bawwwwing but it won't change anything.
Almost all the servers I join (minus the ones with admins!) are affected by my stance on the issue. It's not affecting the game as an entire community but it's affecting ME and MY game time. Multiply that by that as many assho's who share the same idealogy and wammo.
What makes you think that just because you occasionally idle, you never actually play the game? I used to just put on the idler whenever I wasn't playing the game.
Exactly, I played the game about 3 hours a day, and didn't get alot of items, so I put the idler when I was sleeping.
To be honest, if you're wittling away your parent's money by leaving your computer on all night just to acquire a hat for nothing (thus devaluing it), you have a problem. Get out of your basement, you're almost 40.
the amendments to the ELUA, about external programs were added just after the blog post, it was not against the rules prior to that.
For FUCKS SAKE. How many times have I fucking said this. That external program was ALWAYS IN THE EULA, and if it wasn't, it doesn't even matter. Look in the thread on steampowered about "Is Valve cracking down on unlockables" and you'll notice someone fucking quoted the external program part before the blog post was made. If the EULA was changed, you would have been notified when you booted up steam or by email. That argument is absolute bollocks and is a fabrication. And anyone who thinks the 4.5% stat that was posted on the blog is total bullshit needs to read this thread. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=958722 I would find the steam thread where it is quoted, but it's buried under over 19 pages of OMG HALO WEARERS KILLED MY PARENTS
WE WOULD STOP CRYING IF YOU WOULD JUST STOP MAKING THE FUCKING THREADS ARGHh :bang:
Stop being so fucking butthurt and just enjoy the game for what it is.
Aren't you the guy that made that video about the pyro and W+m1?
Just because it wasn't in The EULA doens't mean valve can't take action against it. They meerly took away your advantages over other people as opposed to potentially locking your account, which they had every right to. You got away lightly this time, perhaps you won,t be so lucky next time round. If there is a next time.
Regardless of whether or not Valve's hat system is flawed, you idlers used an external program, which is against the rules. Yes, those who still idled without using an external program are just as bad, however Valve has a harder time keeping track of such players, and assumed by dealing out punishment such as this would cause players to cease idling altogether, and actually use the system as it is intended. (Playing the game for an extended period of time to gain hats without any idling whatsoever) Whining, protesting, and discriminating against those who didn't use external programs isn't going to do anything except make the game less enjoyable for others who are playing. Play the damn game and earn your hats legitimately.
Precisely. This should have been a death nail to the thread, but nope. I will bring up something else, whether it was against the rules or not, Valve can do whatever the fuck they want. It's their game that they put the work into, and after you paid twenty bucks for it standalone, or TEN bucks via the orange box, they gave you a shit-ton of free new weapons and other items via slick updates. But because the COSMETIC items are rare, you broke the rules. I did too. I knew very well that there might be consequences and when I lost my hats I was a bit saddened. But you know what I did? I went and played the game and had fun. Think about it this way as well, if this was Battlefield Heroes, you would have to pay for your weapons to exist permanently, and you would have to pay for hats. That everybody else has. So next time you think of baaawing about it, go play BFH.

"Valve can do whatever the fuck they want?" What the fuck does that even mean? I mean, just because they are legally ALLOWED to do something doesn't mean they aren't jackasses for doing it.
Why do people think they're entitled to the items they got by exploiting the item drop system? I just don't get it.
All you people need to shut up. You should feel lucky. Those of us who can't play the god damn PC version and are stuck with the fucking 360 version don't have any of your fancy hats and extra weapons and shit. "Oh, I kinda-sorta-but-not-really cheated and lost some things that I didn't have 6 months ago and were perfectly happy without and don't contribute to the gameplay much at all! O noes!" And my two cents are that they were just exploiting a glitch or something Valve was careless about. No different that in any other game. I don't see the problem with it. But everyone's getting either smug or butthurt over the stupidest fucking thing.
"Valve can do whatever the fuck they want?" What the fuck does that even mean? I mean, just because they are legally ALLOWED to do something doesn't mean they aren't jackasses for doing it.
It means they can do what they want with your game and account :downs: When you agreed with the EULA it states they are allowed to modify, remove, or drop service to your account, and change the EULA (without warning I believe). If you can't grasp this concept, you are too retarded for the internet.

I mean, just because they are legally ALLOWED to do something doesn't mean they aren't jackasses for doing it.
You didn't quite catch what I was saying. It's their game, they can do whatever they want and 10 percent of the community shouting at the top of their lungs calling them jackasses isn't going to change their minds. Edit: DPennington, I'm so sorry for you and other 360 owners. Look at them and then be mad, and if you are still mad, go play BFH.
Why do people think they're entitled to the items they got by exploiting the item drop system? I just don't get it.
Because the drop system was broken.
Because the drop system was broken.
Yeah, but that's like trying to justify shoplifting because the prices are too high or something. People should be grateful the only thing they took away were the items the gained through using the idler, I don't see that as a punishment.
Good bye, Dickhead :3 It's a game, and i'm still acting like a dickhead.
Fixed. :smug:
ITT: Idiots that know nothing about the idling program and are kiss-asses to valve
Ugh. Really? Did we need to bring this up again? Let's move on, shall we.
I let my mom fuck me in the ass with a strap-on
Hey look, I can edit other people's posts to.
Also, you won't be getting healed on many servers, with that "halo" of yours.
Because they're all a bunch of QQers like you, apparently.
Oh my god. Let this thread die. It doesn't want to live anymore. Listen to Royzo and move on.
Voice sure seems butt hurt.
