It's not like you can't get the weapons back. There's gonna be trading and stuff soon, plus chances to get weapons randomly are pretty good. Why don't you try playing for a while instead of bitching about it?

I lost my only hat. My time with it was brief (only a few hours), but I can guarantee that I will "craft" any weapons necessary to get it back.

As long as there are many different hats like there are now, there is no problem with them all being unlocked at the start. And if the chance you might get a hat really the reason why you still play TF2 then there's a problem.
