OP has forgotten that the Engie is yet to recieve an update. Wait for the update, go Spy on the day of update, next day, go Engie.
i managed to destroy a level 3 sentry with scout's pistol, but i think that might have been a glitch though. still got the achievement for it.
i managed to destroy a level 3 sentry with scout's pistol, but i think that might have been a glitch though. still got the achievement for it.
not that hard if the engie just got backstabbed by a failspy.
Just cuz you have a dual minigun/rocket launching menace doesnt means you should rely only on it. You also have a shotgun and a pistol. Get off ur ass and start shotgunning everything you see getting near you. If youu still cant defend, blame it on your teammates not helping you... TEAM fortress, not "cunter strike"
A Pyro is an engies best friend, EVER, keeps away the ubers blows away the rockets and stickys, specifically the pyros blowback has turned him into the perfect engie pal, more pyros should be good engie-pals
i like to compression blast a sentry's rockets back at it, destroying it. It's a big FU to the engi when you manage to do so.
I've been trying that. That's fucking hard. It takes a second for the rockets to reach you, and I keep accidentally airblasting too soon, so I die. Offtopic, I wish there wasn't a second delay for everything the Pyro does. Gets me killed often. This reason is usually why I don't play Engie that much. My team never supports me, (Might be due to bad server choice) and I end up getting killed by some nasty Demoman. And I love being an Engie-Pal. I could sit there all day, as long as the Engineer isn't a dick.
They should implament a way for you to choose what classes your sentry fires at, this would only be helpful if you had multiple people around you. BUT the ability to set options for your sentry to shoot at what would make some situations much easier for people, like a list of classes that are more deadly than others, so say i set my sentry to shoot a uber before a pesky spy or a bonked scout.
While they're killing your sentry, you're bashing their head in with a wrench. Problem solved.
Good luck with the Heavy juggling you around in the air with ridiculous knockbacks.
People play classes a LOT different in TF2 than in TFC. I remember in TFC always going to their flag room, setting up a tele, dispenser and sentry, and always winning those rounds. Now that's basically impossible.
I think a minor update should be a small HUD element that appears over the tele entrance that says "This teleporter leads to ... BLU Intel Room" or whatever, encouraging more players to actually use them.
OP has forgotten that the Engie is yet to recieve an update. Wait for the update, go Spy on the day of update, next day, go Engie.
On the day of the Engie update, I'm going Pyro despite the fact that my second most played class is the Engie.
The problem is that one lone Engineer is a goner, but 3 Engineers is an unstoppable wall of halted progress. There's no real happy medium.
Except when a lone Uber Pyro destroys all 3 sentries, a Pyro(Backburner), a Sniper and all the Engineers present. The pushback of 3 sentries is not enough to void the Medic's rush, which frees the Pyro up completely to demolish the entire nest. As for being a lone Engie, it's not something you ever want to do. You always want at least a Sniper or Scout or something there to help deal with Spies and the like. Aside from a Sniper sitting in a corner praying, I've had 1 sentry stay up and defend against Uber'd and non-ubered Soldiers, Heavies, Snipers - trust me, this can be a viable assault if the Sniper can get to the sentry, and it's also really weird to see an Ubered Sniper - and a plethora of other assaults. The only things I can't defend against are an Uber'd Pyro and an Uber'd Demo. And you don't always have the luxury of a useful teleporter. In CTF matches where you're defending your intel, you're usually not far from your spawn and would rather have a Spy catcher teleporter than one that lets Spies get into your nest. People still won't help, though. It's rare to get any assistance when I say that there's a Spy at my sentry and I'd like a Pyro or something to do a sweep.
It's not that hard. Shoot the sentry with the pistol, the lone engineer will come if he's dumb, kill him with scattergun, finish the sentry with pistol.
And then the scout gives a virtual FUCK YOU to the engie, and walks away with a 'Gun Down' achievment. I got my gun down achievment on a lney server, and a lvl 3 was seet up infront of the stairs going underfround to the intel. Lucky for us, stand agaisnt the back wall, and the sentry wont see you, and you can just blast it. I started shooting it with the pistol, the egie going for our intel, being the admin, quick repswans and catchs me, and kills me, I come back, and start pistol-ing the lvl3 sentry, the engie never goes back to repair it, so h jumps down and attacks me, I move away from my view of the sentry, wait,wait.. then run straight at the engy, pissing off the sentry, his sentry kills him, I gtfo of the way, and finsih it off. The angry engie sat there in spawn as I left the server with a gun down achievment, and a Bonk!*. *Which I deleted by mistake. >_>
To top it off, thanks to Bonk! The sentry chooses to aim at it, leaving ANY class to destroy it.
This is why I want a remote control sentry, so I can choose what it fires at.
This is why I want a remote control sentry, so I can choose what it fires at.
Then you can stand in spawn and kill everything easily
Then you can stand in spawn and kill everything easily
Unless there be a SPAH! Remote sentries should have a big honking antenna stick out of it to warn spies when they are being remote controlled.

If there's only one Engineer you should change your team or find a smarter server
I dominate as engi so I can't see what the fuss is about.
Then you can stand in spawn and kill everything easily
Yeah, but the downside would be that it would be more vulnerable to Spies and Ubers.
Valve is constantly nerfing the class. Giving them level three dispensers, teleporters, and eventually letting them repair the teleporter REMOTELY.
There's a mod that lets you remote control your buildings. My buddy's server has it, but you can't move a sentry higher than level 1 - by server rules, at least, it's possible normally. It's pretty funny to see the invasion of level 1 sentries. Even funnier when 1 Spy takes out all of them due to the complete inability to remove sappers.

If you stand on your teleporter, and a spy takes your teleporter, you die.
Yesterday I broke my record for sentry kills: 22. I don't know what you're talking about. Location, location, location. Being a good engie means not sitting on your dispenser while whacking away mindlessly on your sentry. If a lone enemy is trying to take out your sentry go shoot them yourself before they start shooting your sentry gun.
Only a few classes can reliably take out a level three sentry. The Engineer can easily destroy ALL classes with a level three sentry. That's not overpowered or underpowered for either class. That's balance. That's why the classes that can take them out can take them out easily (WITH HELP).
If you mean a level 1 sentry, yes. If you mean a level 3 sentry, no. Unless you are a bad engineer. [editline]i[/editline] Wow. Seriously? You can't defend a freaking level 3 sentry from a medic and a heavy without an ubercharge?
On close range buffed heavy beats lvl3 sentry. On long range he doesn't. [editline]02:30PM[/editline] But wait, when did they nerf engineer last time?
I know they've changed a lot, but is it more to do with the fact that other classes have been updated, leaving the Engineer behind? Can anyone make a list of changed to just the Engineer that have nerfed him?

There was a difference of about 10 kills. However, some people do forget about how valuable an engineers buildings can be and tend to focus on saving themselves rather than fight to the death. Resulting in a lost sentry gun and a captured objective.
