Meet the Engineer is done years ago. This is the next (i.e. last) class update. Valve talked about the repair node and other flopped Engineer upgrades, so those are likely his projects that never panned out storyline speaking. Now that robot arm, it seems almost too obvious to me, am I right? It has to be part of something else perhaps.

There was a flamethrower in front of the engineer in the video.

Maybe the home wrecker really will be useful. There might be something similar to the demoman and soldier rivalry, where the two pyros made by the engineers duke it out to see whos the better creation.
It would be cool if engineer's arm that is covered by the glove was that robot arm, but the gib effects show otherwise. Shame really, Darth Engi would be badass.
His arm is burnt from working with wiring, or completely oilstained

Maybe they'll release meet the Pyro and something will happen to the Engineer in it. Then they can change the model for the Engie in game. It happened with the Sniper in meet the Spy.

I think they are fine. It would be great for defense if you could put up a sentry and a dispenser without trecking through the map looking for metal.
Would also be good for offense, if you put down a sentry and an exit (putting up the entrance before all of this of course) you get to get your team in faster and reinforce your push.
The flame sentry makes sense, because it would actually give the homewrecker some use besides picking on lone dispensers. And it would be good to place next to doors or main entrances since you can ambush somebody, and if they dont die from the initial damage they will likely die from afterburn.
And finally I bet you ten dollars there will be some anti-spy weapons.

Looks like a bunch of metal rods and pistons and wires wired and strapped to engie's right arm and fingers.
Replaces the wrench, increased fire speed (less aiming) or aiming (less fire speed) for all weapons.
Best part: Your melee attack is one-armedly beating people and sentries up.
Taunt: Electric cord whiplash.
