That outfit's likely because scout is the "sports guy" in TF2 and an all-American kid to boot.
Also, due to his age I could see him playing football in college.
Though if you think about it, a football theme could fit soldier well, if not better, seeing as he's a rather brawny, stereotypically American guy (who likes to wear helmets). He'd probably like manly sports.
Though he'd likely be slightly more fitting as a gruff coach or a demanding football fan dad rather than a player.

I like those names as they are. Long alliterative names are annoying and hard to remember.
