Actually, the same thing happened to me last night.
I found two unusual hats in one drop, and they added all this new stuff. There was even some realistic stuff in there, oddly enough; I remember seeing a 92FS and a .45 in there. I didn't really mind, though I thought some people were probably going to be upset.
I think it's safe to say that tonight or tomorrow night is the night :)
I highly doubt at this point it'll be anything big, but I am just excited for the TF2 Beta stuff getting in today. I love the loadout saving and 2nd misc slots, and that's all I really want.
(Not to mention nerfing the Tomislav and buffing the Widowmaker. Yay.)

HE FREAKING POSTED IN THE THREAD GUYS.
There wouldn't be a major update unless there were officially released signs leading up to it. Scream Fortress is only around 2 weeks away. Here's what I think's going to happen in order:
[1] Between now and next week the game is going to update with small content alongside some additional hidden content and hints for the upcoming Scream Fortress update.
[2] Sometime next week there will be a blog post detailing the upcoming Scream Fortress.
[3] In 2 weeks from now, starting on either the 25th or 27th of October, Scream Fortress is officially live and out.
Until then there isn't going to be any significant update.
Who's to say there's a Halloween update at all?
Why are people saying there isn't an update today when there was the HLDS letter, and even tony confirmed that the update is gonna happen TODAY.

It's happened twice in a row with huge success and a large update is already due. Especially with the new increased F2P playerbase I would hardly be surprised of another event since Valve can also gain a lot from it.

It was delayed and, as publicly stated by Tony, to do some polishing.
Polishing is (hopefully) always the final stage of an update.
Part of me thinks it's too early for Scream Fortress
The other thinks it's too late to release two separate big content updates.

It always happens.
I don't even feel like spouting tonights the night. I've been lied to, and have had my heart broken to many times.
