If you want to be technical, Bonesaw has straight upgrades with the Amputator and the piss head- I mean Solemn Oath. Shovel is a slow second with the Equalizer and Whip both having better strats.

They're completly useless on a close range class like the Heavy.

I rarely play scout, and when I do with the basher I usually end up doing less damage or contribute to the team than I would with the regular bat, so yes.

as for useless weapons, the first one that comes to mind is the Holy Mackerel. Sure its fun to use, but it doesn't really do much other than counting the hits you deal to players

You can easly get your ammo back by dropped weapons or dispenser or ammo pickups.

Aim your swings. The Basher helped me quite often tracking down Spies who were about to cloak. The bleed trail and short blink make it useful against Spies.
