Don't worry guns, I'll design a workable Octopus gun. :v:
Let´s see who makes it better!!! I think I will also do the octopus models for each class that I designed. For support the Octopus Gun again, and if that doesn´t work (meh, but i´m pretty sure it will) just as little miscs for all classes :V
What would said Octopus Gun do? Would it be more controlling, like the one Professor Genki designed, or does it turn enemies into octopi for a while? Or does it SPAWN octopi if you kill an enemy within 15 seconds of zapping them? THAT WOULD BE SO COOL.

I think it would just work best as a tacked on kill effect (One that turns the enemy you just killed into a Octopus which then does an overly dramatic Looney Toons/Tex Avery play-dead death animation) like Decapitation, Wall pinning and Disintegrating. Otherwise it just wouldn't be fun to play against.

I still think that the Engineer should be able to use the pistol, I still don't get why the Soldier got it, they had to make custom animations for it and everything. They should at least share the weapon.
it would have to be a primary for Engineer, and Engineer would have also required custom animations. Since every other item in the pack was for Soldier, it was probably requested that it be given to Soldier. And also as a primary weapon for Engineer it would be hilariously underpowered.
they should make more hand-sized soldier weapons! ..don't shoot
the funny thing is, Soldier's melee animations work pretty good for punching type weapons. Sticking the Warrior's Spirit on Soldier makes the animations look perfectly fine.
I hope later on if they don't accept some of the more winter themed items now, they still consider them later A nice package of ice and snow themed weapons and hats in January or February would still work. I was looking at the Heavy Ice Fists, Spy Ice Dagger and Scout Snowball and thinking that they're not very holiday related, but I really want them in-game, so I hope we get a winter themed update later on
While I agree on your point, I would hope that they don't solely consider an item for the winter update based on how festive it is.
What if they add Season Restrictions? Winter items could be used from December-Febuary. Spring items from March-May. Summer items from June-August. Autumn items from September-November. I guess they could work it out so that you have one main backpack for all year items such as tools, hats and default unlockable class weapons, and then a season backpack that changes with the seasons? It could add more variety to the gameplay for each season. That or I'm just suggesting a very stupid idea. [sp]Please don't throw boxes at me, I'm allergic to cardboard. [/sp]
It still wouldn't be very fair for the people that bought the item, and the people that made it.
It still wouldn't be very fair for the people that bought the item, and the people that made it.
That's true. I skipped those thoughts, most likely because it's almost 4 am here, sorry.

[/sp]
Contributions cannot be holiday restricted. While this can lead to some pretty badass haloween hats staying for the whole year, that also means that, much like your neighbour, you will probably end up not removing your decorations at all.
With the creator's consent, they can :eng101: I'd cite an email that someone in the emporium got as proof but he redacted it for secrecy reasons v:v:v
Now, that I didn't think about. If the contributor had nothing against restrictions it could very much be possible. TBH I wouldn't mind season restricted weapons and hats instead of just a 14 days of Halloween costumes and one week every end of a month... Not saying it's a bad thing, but if they can't be used more often they're just taking up space in your backpa- guys. A backpack for Holiday items only.
why would a creator want their item restricted, it only stands to hurt them?
why would a creator want their item restricted, it only stands to hurt them?
Because they would much rather have the item in the game, regardless of royalty payments, than to not have their item in the game at all. It's not all about the money, dude.
if nobody is using your item, is it truly in the game?
if nobody is using your item, is it truly in the game?
Yes. It's in the gcf, it's in people's backpacks, it's in the Mann Co store catalog (unusable doesn't mean not purchasable), documented on the official wiki, and a self-made is inserted into your inventory. What kind of question is that?
if nobody is using your item, is it truly in the game?
Well, it applies to maps...
Would anyone honestly chose their item to be restricted? It's arbitrary, it doesn't need to happen. If Valve is perfectly willing to add it into the game proper, why would anyone in their right mind limit the item's useage.

However, if Valve is offering RESTRICTED-TIME, there are some people who would be more than happy to agree with that restriction as is.
Basically, if restricted was the ONLY way to get ingame, yeah. Otherwise, nope.
but it's pretty clear from the piles of all-year-round themed community items that Valve has no problem adding these items to the game as full time items. The choice doesn't seem to be whether the item gets added as a restricted item or it doesn't get added at all. It would be really tough to sell that to a contributor after accepting the Christmas Tree hat and the Impaler as full time items.
I wouldn't mind this being retroactively restricted to be Holiday-only. I really wouldn't.
The vibrator tree? Personally it shouldn't have been added since it doesn't work all year, the halloween contributions kind of work although soldier's is kind of strange (no offence to getgrenade), and the candy cane also works a small bit since scout has another food related bat (fish)
I look at the tree as being one of the "silly things on people's heads because lol" items like the HOUWAR, Dapper Topper, Plunger, etc.
