I look at the tree as being one of the "silly things on people's heads because lol" items like the HOUWAR, Dapper Topper, Plunger, etc.
Please don't shower me in boxes, but I think the dapper topper isn't actually too bad, the hat could just fit better for a different class.
I look at the tree as being one of the "silly things on people's heads because lol" items like the HOUWAR, Dapper Topper, Plunger, etc.
and I think we already kind of have enough hats like that.
Please don't shower me in boxes, but I think the dapper topper isn't actually too bad, the hat could just fit better for a different class.
Let the Medic wear the Dr's Dapper Topper. Let the Soldier wear the Dr. Whoa.
What if they add Season Restrictions? Winter items could be used from December-Febuary. Spring items from March-May. Summer items from June-August. Autumn items from September-November. I guess they could work it out so that you have one main backpack for all year items such as tools, hats and default unlockable class weapons, and then a season backpack that changes with the seasons? It could add more variety to the gameplay for each season. That or I'm just suggesting a very stupid idea. [sp]Please don't throw boxes at me, I'm allergic to cardboard. [/sp]
Or items that change appearence every season. Like those new pokemons. Wich are terrible.
Would anyone honestly chose their item to be restricted? It's arbitrary, it doesn't need to happen. If Valve is perfectly willing to add it into the game proper, why would anyone in their right mind limit the item's useage.
Why? Think of it this way man, how cool is the ghastly gibus? Not very cool. It sucks, everyone uses it, you see it all the damn time. Fuck the gibus. BUT! When it first came out, there were a boatload of people that were like WHOA NEW HAT THIS IS SO COOL OH MY GOD IS IT FOR ALL MY CLASSES WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT And then people wore it all year, and it became stupid, because everyone had it and nobody liked it. But then you compare it to the Mildly Disturbing Halloween mask that everyone was raving about that first Halloween, with everyone say OH MAN VALVE U SUK GIBUS SUK WHY U NO UNLIMIT PAPER BAG, because it was a pretty cool mask and it changed for different classes and shit, and everybody thought it was cool as hell. So then halloween comes around again the next year, and everybody that had a paper bag mask whipped that shit out like it was going outta style, because it was cool and you only got to wear it so often. So everybody is wearing it, and WHOA more new hats! JACK O LANTERNS?! SKULLS? VOODOO HATS?! And everybody wore those like crazy, but they still wore their paper bags. Gibus, on the other hand, nobody wore even with the new cosmetic, because everybody had seen it already all damn year and nobody cared about it at all. So anyway, this year comes around, and everybody raced to get all the WAAAY COOL AS HELL ITEMS! BUGINEER? ROBO- yeah fuck it you get the point. So anyways, its cool shit because it's exclusive. Because it doesn't get worn out from being used all the time. Like look at the Bombinomicon, its already becoming like the Ghastly Gibus. Sure, it was fun to explode on death because it was FUN and FESTIVE and EXPLODEY and FUUUU So then 2 months later, it's annoying as shit and there's plenty of people that want it limited because now it's just a bunch of visual clutter from killing somebody and you've seen it a million times and no it's not cool anymore. It's like telling a stale joke over and over, but meanwhile the items that are limited to full moons stay FRESH! And FUN! And cool! Because they aren't in your face all the damn time. Hell, look at the Ze Goggles. People loved the shit out of those when they came out, but years later? Who cares, they're just another craft hat that I'll trade off because who gives a fuck. Moral of the story: If you want an item to stay fresh, try limiting it. Also, contributors might rake in a little more because of all the tards that'll go OH MAN GOTTA BUY NOW I'LL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN AUUUGHHHHHHH But that's just like, my opinion man.
even the almighty Teddy Roosebelt and Team Captain will eventually lose their steam. It just happens with the items, and limiting them doesn't do anything but annoy people who want to always wear them. This year's halloween items were a bad example also, because there were more people who wanted them unlimited than limited :x

But they keep their steam longer when they are.
Or items that change appearence every season. Like those new pokemons. Wich are terrible.
I would like a hat/misc like that
Let the Medic wear the Dr's Dapper Topper. Let the Soldier wear the Dr. Whoa.
How about Spy? He comes unasked to peoples homes and fucks shit up.
Well yeah, people don't like stuff limited, nobody does. But they keep their steam longer when they are.
there's nothing that proves what you said is true
I would like a hat/misc like that
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1925 Close enough? :v:
there's nothing that proves what you said is true
I don't see you going into any detail either. EDIT: The point I'm making is that items can keep their steam longer when they're limited. You've pointed out that people don't like when it happens (which is true), but you also haven't said anything to contradict what I said.
you're the one who made the claim that restrictions keep the steam going for sales. It's your argument to back up, not mine. Anyway, Steam Sale may start early this year, looking like tomorrow, based on this developer https://www.facebook.com/EarthDefenseForce/posts/159424424159247
there's nothing that proves what you said is true
Have to agree with KnowProblem on this one. I'm sure making them restricted makes people really appreciate the items when they are available, or else they would just be thrown into the trash eventually, like every other hat in this game.
or the restricted items get shoved into the last pages of your backpack and you forget to equip them during the 2 days a month you can equip them because it's not worth the effort. I really don't think people throw hats in the trash, that's only traders and stuff. Regular players still get excited and cherish the hats they have, renaming them and painting them and adding more personal touches to them. They become "their" hat, which you can't do to a restricted item.

If I got an item ingame, I probably wouldn't because yeah, the other way DOES make more money. But on the other hand, if somebody thinks that it'll make people love their hat more, then I don't think it's that crazy that they'd want to. Certainly not "out of their mind". Also, early sale might mean an earlier event. /tinfoil
Well yeah, people don't like stuff limited, nobody does. But they keep their steam longer when they are.
Wow, thanks, champion of the people. Maybe next time you can ask for opinion before talking in the name of everyone. I think event items should be limited whenever it's possiible without completely screwing over the contributors. Don't you hate it when it's february and your neighbour still has his christmas decorations up? I don't want that to happen in TF2.

I just said that it's valid someone might want to limit their items if given the choice. You don't have to call me a champion of the people, I just made a small, meaningless generalization. Sorry it somehow offended you. Also, fucking vibrator hats. It's already happened.

Never trading it. It's my hat.
At least we don't have to worry about new weapons being restricted. The Candy Cane and the Head Taker aren't, and the Headtaker doesn't even have its own stats!

The only thing I found really hard to look at is 4chans (in)famous section I should not talk about.
With the creator's consent, they can :eng101: I'd cite an email that someone in the emporium got as proof but he redacted it for secrecy reasons v:v:v
If you're talking about the email I posted a few days ago and removed then that wasn't about holiday restrictions.

You're basically saying that, because YOU are not bothered by these festive hats all year round, nobody should be? You should probably tear YOUR fingers out if you're gonna write something as stupid again. If they do anything that may negatively impact royalty payments by making them restricted or obtained in ways other than through the Mann Co. Store, they will see to it that they get the creator's consent first.

oh no, not your gift box hat!
