Not every single major update is on a Thursday.
I went to go check the date for all the updates to prove to you they all came out on Thursdays. Turns out several of them came out on a Wednesday.
Go figure.
I'm pretty sure if Valve released it a day early they would make a joke about it
or make it part of the slogan for the update

I think it's just the lumberjack hat that got in. But if it did it would probably be a primary wep that disables the melee slot but I don't think valve will do that.
