Clearly the TF2 boss is a Hydra from Half-Life 2 Beta.
And it will be fought on tc_hydro.
Hydra on hydro, you heard it here first.

That would be awesome. We need more servers running Hydro.
I've been informed that all of the commands for the Hydra controller are actually in the beta (from the 21st of Sept), however, nobody knows yet if they work or not.
I have said this many times before, and I will say it again: the Hydra is looking to be pretty amazing. From the tutorials I've seen, it appears to function EXACTLY the same as how the Nintendo Wii Remote works.
People say that keyboard+mouse format is pretty much the best format for FPS games, and they're pretty much right. But motion controls comes pretty damn close, if not better. From my experience with the Wii Remote on games such as Metroid Prime 3 (or Prime Trilogy), the controls are pinpoint accurate and waaaay easier to aim and navigate than trying to run around and aim with a dual-joystick controller.
[editline]October 4th, 2011[/editline]
MEANWHILE.
As for speculation if the change on the Hydra video means the update is coming soon....I highly doubt it. If they removed the COMING SOON label, wouldn't that imply it is no longer coming soon? I would take it as meaning the update is farther away than initialized.
I own one, so I can say that it's actually better than the Wii Remote. The responsiveness is truly spot-on. Portal 2 already has Hydra integration with floating crosshair, and it works VERY well.
I personally think that Hydra's motion control is just as accurate as mouse control. The only difference is, where mice have to be picked up and moved to the center of the mousepad to be reset, the Hydra has to be "ratcheted", that is, you hold down a button and turn the controller back to your central position to reset (much like ratcheting with a wrench, get it?). A lot of people attribute ratcheting to the Hydra being slower than the mouse, but it just takes getting used to. We're used to the mouse's quirks because we've been using it for years and years; it's the tried and true classic aiming method, so of course we won't see as much fault in it as we do a new method.
Isn't it basically thirdparty cheating if you could only have that advantage with Hydra? It's like if players who play with PS3 controller had a build-in aimbot.
Yes. :v: Hydra users are going to have a huge corner advantage with projectiles if this works the way I think it does.
But at the same time, you probably really wouldn't want that type of aiming method with a mouse. The kind of wide gestures you have to make to turn your character's head feel natural on the Hydra, but with a mouse will feel very tedious and unnatural unless you set your sensitivity up really high...which would defeat the purpose, because then aiming around within the screen using the floating crosshair will become more difficult.
So while it does give an advantage, you have to realize that the advantage really comes with the hardware. Valve could've retooled it so that projectiles always fire from a fixed position, though, so who knows.
If you can customize the controls (I really hope you can do that) and bind "Jump" and/or "Crouch" to a button it won't be a big problem
I believe you can. There's an extra configuration file for Hydra controls in the beta, so I'm fairly certain we'll just be able to edit that.
Which I will be doing, because I fucking hate gestures. I keep activating them accidentally because I'm not paying attention to where my left hand drifts to. They have gesture controls set up for the default TF2 in the current Hydra configurator and I FUCKING HATE THEM. I'm probably just going to put my left hand on the keyboard and use the default controls. I appreciate analog movement, but WASD does its job well enough.
The viewmodels with the RazerHydra is way to jittery for me to ever concider using, sadly. It looks interesting, but holy shit my OCD...
That jittering is actually the guy's hand shaking, not the controller. It's that sensitive. :v: You can adjust the sensitivity, though. Portal 2's Sixense DLC has a ton of adjustments you can make in an extra menu, so I'm assuming TF2 will have the same.
I'm not sure about the hydra, the cameras turning speed seems really slow; so it might be hard to turn around fast enough if someone attacks you from behind.
You can adjust that. Or just bind a button to spin you around...

They don't. :(

I noticed, that's why I edited my post.
It wouldn't change for me though. My hands mostly shake like crazy, it's a wonder I can even play bass as well as I do...
i don't think they're dead if they arrived to upload their stupid video
Someone else, maybe the family or so, could've taken the camrea/mobile phone (whatever the video was recorded with) and upload the video.
I wouldn't count on the update being tonight. I doubt they'd release two major updates for their own games in the same day.
Not for any other reason other than it'll slow down and clog Steam servers with everyone downloading so much data at the same time.

I will laugh 'cause they were driving like an idiot. I mean c'mon, they had it coming if that's how they are on the road.

Rest in Peace, Big Rizzle.
So, while waiting for some actual information to come up I decided to play some Castlevania on an emulator, and I made a haiku for my current state of mind;
[del]Mix up the controls
You fall to death
Fucking keyboard[/del] That's not a haiku, dumbass...
[sub][sub]Edited;[/sub][/sub]
God damn, that's not a haiku! My bad, ignore me.

yeah, RIP.
But it is looking like the next big one is to be helloween to me.

Do you think they will add all your styles in this update or release them separately in minor updates?
Do you think they will add all your styles in this update or release them separately in minor updates?
God knows.

Still atheist.
I'm more interested in a Kritzkreig backpack and sounds
Tomorrow morning's the night!
Tonight is a night!
You're going to be loaded after this update hits
I am not kidding.
I'm more interested in a Kritzkreig backpack and sounds
I got an arguement to pitch to valve whenever some one makes my V2 kritzkrieg that involves some old skool talk about how little visual information the current kritz pitches.
TODAY'S THE NIGHT [sp]WHERE WE SHALL DREAM ABOUT THE UPDATE WHEN WE ARE ASLEEP.[/sp]

Not really, Valve actually very often does a bunch of release in the same day.
but that would be 2 gigs worth of downloading (quite possibly at the same time) for everyone who owns both TF2 and Portal 2.
Such a download by so many people would crash Steam. It happened before right around Christmas.
If that Heavy primary slot chainsaw is real, I will never play another class again.

Didn't they already update portal 2 today with the challenges/co-op stuff?
http://theportalwiki.com/wiki/October_4,_2011_Patch
Or is there more.
I hope we get something cool on Thursday even though it's probably gonna be a halloween update. They picked my name out of the hat to give Thursday off at work and it's the same day everyone gets their PFD's (free money) here in Alaska. This week is perfect for TF2 update. I will unclog the dam of pessimism and add to the pile-o-hopes.
