Swap out the model rather than directly equipping the weapon on him. That usually works for me.

My guess is that they probably intended to do a small Manniversary update for the 30th, but it was changed at the 11th hour, likely due to Portal II but possibly incompleteness. I'm basing this on the emails sent out. As far as the next update, Valve is probably going to angle a "Friday the Fourteenth / Thursday the Thirteenth" spooky update for the end of of next week, I suspect.
Major Update? give it another week

I'd say two, if not three. Basically two major updates in one month would be stupid with Halloween that near.

We now just can wait for a Halloween Update release, but I don't think Valve would release it this early, give them a week.

It's only 9:00 pm here in engerland, usually updates come out about 10-12 pm.
I got my money on the update being today, fingers crossed.

I'm really excited, but I'm keeping myself form getting too excited because I'm afraid the update won't come out tonight.
Also, I'm not playing TF2 because I want to wait and see if an update comes out so I can play and have a chance of getting some cool new weapons/hats.
