last night I got my first random drop, and I have one day of playing time..
it was an engineers light or something, I gave it to my friend for some polycount weapons.
I played TF2 since October of 2007 and I only got one hat through a drop last week and it was Dr. Dapper's Topper.
When my friend got TF2 2 months ago he found 2 hats through drops in only a few days.
I don't get Valve's system. It seems like the longer you played, the less likely you are to get hat drops.

Been playing since March on the PC (Long long time ago on the 360), and have only gotten one hat drop.
I only got my first hat (a vintage camera beard) today via a trade for some paint. I have been playing since 2008.
I got a batters helmet as my first drop about a week after I started playing, I got nothing until the polycount update where I got both a mullet and a medic mask in one day.
I've been playing since '08 (though that doesn't really matter). First hat ever was the halo. I crafted the Tough Guy's Toque, then got the Mining Light through the drop system. Since then, I've traded for a bunch of hats, gotten all the giveaway hats, and found one more hat: the Soldier's Stash.

Who cares? Hats have only been around for a year and a half.
No Drops and no Craft Hats, only Promo Hats. Makes me feel like such a sell-out.
T'was like that for me for a long time. Then I started finding them from time to time, have found 3x Modest Pile of Hat, hatless engie and hatless scout so far.
i found 1 hat through a drop, on the day the steam servers went crazy with drops.
i now have around 4~5 hats, thanks to trading.
There are far more ways to receive hats than through drops. Also, i've had 3, but deleted 2 because of 'hurr i quit tf2' phase.

3 dropped. I found a safe'n'sound a long time ago, and then after the Mann Co. I found two in a row. Still can't explain that.
Played since October 2007. Only ever found hats through idling, which were all taken away.
All my hats, except for Medic Mirror, were crafted/traded/event.

Try idling
1 hat via drop.
1 hat via craft
1 hat via class-craft.
2 hat via crate (2 nappers, one i gave to my friend)
Maybe I should do a raffle for all my hats, Poor and Irish or only one hat exclusive.
I only had two hat drops: Toque and Ushanka.
If you've really been playing three years, I would think you'd care about things other then hats.

If you've been playing so long without a single hat drop. Try enjoying the game for what matters
instead of moping around for hats.

Who says I only care about hats?
Dropped 3 hats at once in ZombieFortress server (when the drop system was completely broken), then 2 hats months later (1 by playing and 1 by idling)

Soldier
Engineer
Scout
