So anyway, anyone got any ideas how to buff the stock Flamethrower? It's needs to be a decent side-grade, but the Degreaser outmatches it in everyway.

Closest to doing so would be the Milkman set.[/QUOTE] I can agree with what you're saying, but I also think inventing stats for one-off items can net some really amazing, unique, and abstract stuff, too. Take, for instance, the Sandvich. An awesome and funny idea that works really well on its own. If that had been part of a pack, we probably would've got some sort of health-themed minigun and melee weapon, and because they would've been way too OP when used together, there would've been inevitable nerfs to each of the items. Meaning that the Sandvich on its own would've been a more nerfed and useless item to use without the other weapons in its pack. Just some biased, wild speculation in order to mesh with my two cents. :) Obviously sets can be done right, like the stuff from the Saharan Spy. The YER is a great weapon on its own.
YER didn't need the L'Etranger, it just weighs it down. I think the Deus Ex update showed you didn't need sets to have creative weapons.

The Degreaser could have -90% damage and it would still be used. You don't damage with the Degreaser, you light the enemy on fire, and then you go to town using the Axtinguisher as your main damaging element. What would be... different, would be to lower melee swing speed with the Degreaser. I don't like stats that effect other slots, but this would allow the Degreaser to basically be the same as it is now, unless you missed the axti swing.
If they do one of these, I will be happy: 1. Degreaser with higher airblast cost or 2. Axetinguisher that mini-crits burning targets (but can get random crits)
What about folks that mostly just use the shotgun in tandem with the degreaser? e: uh, that was directed at ned, in case that wasn't obvious
It's sorta weird to see that everything thinks that every pyro uses the axtinguisher. It's not all that good in higher-level play, because people don't let you get close to them. Backscratcher, powerjack (set bonus), and homewrecker all see use in competitive environments (depending on the bans). Ex: Flamethrower gets +10% damage, degreaser gets -10% damage. Net change to degreaser: -1% damage, no one cares.

Use shotgun as the primary damage element at medium range and push until I'm in melee range, puff a small bit of fire, light them up, then Axtinguish to death. It helps I also have a strange shotgun and strange axti
