That's what I thought in the first place. Although Maruhai pointed the fact that "if it's on the update page, it's going to be important for the players".
MvM will be announced tomorrow.
You will all remember me as the prophet.
pls
I still think weapons tomorrow, otherwise they'll risk losing hype.
i have faith with the TF2 team. Based on theyre feedback and speed with our past items, they can churn out and test items and stats real quick. It took them more than 6 months to get this update done, it can't be just 2 sets tomorrow. If i get 3 sets tomorrow, i'll be happy even if none of them were made by me.
how noble of you.
Since they used Meet the Medic as a kind of trailer for TF2 going F2P, I think they'll use Meet the Pyro in a similar way. It's my guess that it'll be great on its own, but will heavily imply or hint at an upcoming update having to do with Tobor. They'll use it as a kind of trailer for "the next big thing."
I seriously doubt they'll cram everything they've been working on for the past 6+ months into one 3-day update, especially when they were quoted as claiming that the entire year of 2012 is going to be a big one. Just keep your hopes for Pyromania sensible and I guarantee you that whatever gets released will satisfy you for a good while.
And think of it this way-- they've been working on whatever Tobor is for a really long time now. If it doesn't get released in Pyromania, then we'll know that A.) It's even bigger than we previously assumed, and B.) we'll know what to look forward to in the very near future!
I'm looking for 6-9 sets with a few floater items.
...maybe I'm overshooting a bit?
What if the 4th thing is the release of custom stats, and the random crap items are the items you plug into weapons to give them their stats?
I doubt that this will have its own dedicated panel. The manniversary update gave us a tab the most. A panel could have some sort of feature thats new for the consumer and not the class in the game.

This. They completely changed the basis of TF2 by introducing Free To Play. If they have something like that for MtP, there's no telling what kinda shitstorm it'll generate (in a positive way).
I keep reading over this, and all I can think is how fucking whiny you guys are
"oh this new gametype is dumb I hate it"
"valve needs to release x amounts of weapons otherwise this is a failure"
"this better be bigger than every other update combined"
fuuuuuuckk off. Seriously. We are only in DAY 1 of a badass update, and guess what, shit's still free. That's right. You are bitching because people are not giving you nice enough presents.
I'm sure they've got some surprises, the Pyromania hub looks very barren as it is right now.

But I said 'hopefully'... I don't actually expect it to be, I'll be happy either way.
[sp]also i was joking[/sp]

Honestly, I just want the Dark Age of Demolition and a new sapper and I'd be happy :x
It just seems the update is a little light
But they added MvM stuff to the code :(
So? Valve is Valve and sometimes they don't learn.
I have a huge fear about this update. Looks like is going to be like the Australian christmas.
honestly as long as I get a few pyro weapons, and POSSIBLY something for the medic, I'd be overjoyed to shit and back
BUT WAIT HOLD THE MOTHERFUCKING PHONE MEET THE PYRO AS WELL?
I don't give two shakes of a shit if this update is a steaming pile of dog bile, Meet the Pyro is finally coming out after sweet christmas knows how long. Everything else is sweet icing on an already sexy cake.

Hey, Sardonus, as much as I agree with you, that there are some whiners in here, you've said the same thing like 3 times already. Give it a rest dude.
Love you though.
it sucks now that im going on vacation a week from now. Would love to play a bit more while its fresh.

Yeah man, I realized I'm quite the broken record. People just still won't accept that this update might not be Satan Incarnate as people seem to believe
I mean, c'mon
we have had way worse updates
I'm not gonna tell people to stop speculating in a speculation thread, because that would make me worse than Hitler. However, I would contain your "disappointment" with today's content. Personally, if the update is even to par with the Uber Update, I'll literally stop playing TF2 altogether, because that would mean Valve dropped the ball on the heads of every member of the Team Fortress 2 community.
But I have more faith in Valve than that. I always have. They aren't the type to hit or miss. They're the type to hit 90% of the time and if they miss, make it look like they hit by reassuring the community with extra shit. I don't sense a miss. This is too much work for something meager.
Even if we do just get Game Mode, Sets, Meet the Pyro, and a few tiny extras, it's possible that the Game Mode could be amazing, the Sets could be brilliant, and Meet the Pyro could top every single Meet the video yet.
Quality over quantity is Valve's MO for sure.

I'd willingly pay for better updates to be quite honest.
Imagine if Valve just came out and said "well, I hope you liked the ARG and it was exciting for everyone, because we ended up spending all of our time on that, rather than the update. The update only introduces a few cosmetics and a new unusual effect, the mosquito effect!"
I'd laugh so hard I'd cry.
Wait, shit, no. I'd cry so hard I'd begin laughing.
I'd willingly pay for better updates to be quite honest.
I'm sure a ton of people would, but I don't think Valve would want to break their chain of free swag

Nor do I want them to. I want better updates and I have the right to express my opinion. Don't tell us to fuck off.
I'd willingly pay for better updates to be quite honest.
I love TF2 as much as the next guy but I wouldn't want to start paying for updates to a game that's 5 years old. That's just me though.
Nor do I want them to. I want better updates and I have the right to express my opinion. Don't tell us to fuck off.
Seriously. I haven't seen anyone outright complaining about the update for several pages. Most people are just expressing valid concerns. This is a speculation thread; that's what it's all about.
i would pay. not necessarily like it. But thats what we're been doing in the console era. I dont mind buying a new disc of virtua fighter. But for my TF2 i like them free as valve likes it. And yes i do want quality too than quantity. Others may suggest that is contrary to my mantra but thats what i feel too.

that's probably more my fault, been catching up on an assload of pages
Look, I can understand if you guys feel that this update is light so far, but what I want to say is just, hold your judgments until day 3. We've got 2 more Days for Valve to release all kinds of tickles and goodies.
At Day 3, if this DOES turn out to be one of the shittiest updates? Then feel free to complain all you want. Feel free to verbally abuse me, I'll deserve it at that point.
But I think we just need to give em time. I mean, hell, look at the Sniper/spy update.
http://teamfortress.com/sniper_vs_spy/day01_english.htm
This was Day 1.
LITERALLY 1 WEAPON.
And then Sniper/Spy turned into an insanely radical bitching update.
ALL I'M SAYING
is be a little optimistic. This'll turn out fine, I'm sure.
Problem with F2P games is the lack of incentive to innovate on the engine level, because the engine is the core game, and the core game isn't the money maker; content is. Balance tweaks are also discouraged because OP weapons sell. Strange Enforcer would be worth a lot less if it was an actual real balanced sidegrade. I would consider buying a couple of those rings if they would just tighten up netcode and balance a few weapons.
I don't think every class needing a set would be necessary to make this a good update. Just throwing in (finally) an Engineer community set and an Explosive Demoman set with the inevitable Pyro Pack and Medic & Scouts packs coming in the update plus Doomsday would make for an excellent update.
I just hope there's more than just one set for the pyro.
I just hope there's more than just one set for the pyro.
Nah, Valve is just gonna add 2 sets for the Solider...
I just hope there's more than one set for the pyro.
You know what I'm most hoping for out of this update? Soldier hats. And a few more Soldier melee weapons.
I'm sure a ton of people would, but I don't think Valve would want to break their chain of free swag
So what about that 100 dollar ring and every community submission made thus far? You had to pay for them :v:
