No, the subtlety is part of the story. Its called a BACKstory for a reason. You should be able to play the game without even touching the story. The story just adds depth to those who are looking for it. There is a reason that Valve didn't put the story into the levels except in inconspicuous nods and easter eggs.

Yes, the Demo has always been looking at us. Heavy, Scout and Spy have always been looking in the current direction. I would say I'm 100% sure of it but I'd look like an idiot if I end up being proven wrong.

Only difference between the sticky launcher and the detonator is some dirt and smoke

It doesn't have unique particles. It just uses the particles that were already in-game a little differently, but they are not unique to the detonator, nor were they added with the Uber update.
Do other flare guns use those particles?

in that regard, the detonator is unique. However, it would be nice if it didn't have to share particles with other explosions at all and had a fire work with little sparks that slowly fall down.
It would help with the hitbox identification issues.

But it does not have it's own particles, which it sorely needs (and was what I meant when I said custom particles)
Somewhat off topic, but I think the thing I want most out of the end of the ARG-thing is the retrospective, like what they did with the Portal 2 one.
If you don't remember that, they hid 3 images in the same SSTV format in one of the commentary nodes, which was a short, 3-slide presentation on the initial stage of the Portal 2 ARG (with the BBS and radios, before the Potato one).

In those presentations, the time they gave for the Internet to solve part of it (about seven hours) was pretty close, so it was good to see that we met expectations pretty well... They also threw in some information on how they designed it and what the goals were.
Some of those goals showed up here, too, like "Easy meta-game; everyone could join in" (in fact, everyone [i]had[/i] to this time!)... though my favorite was the bullet point "Combined might of the Internets is terrifying". Heheh.
As for update thoughts, this is probably just backstory. I honestly think that people are overreacting to the whole Poopy Joe thing; there have been a bunch of secret images and pages before that made all sorts of ridiculous claims, and last time I checked TF2 wasn't a game about sitting around [url=http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Nine-Pipe_Problem]puffing through pipes[/url] and wearing [url=http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Towering_Pillar_of_Hats]ridiculous ha[/url]-- ... okay, I guess they [i]do[/i] have a point.
