We thought Valve gave up on TF2 because of Dota and thought TF2 was done with the exception of mostly weekly updates adding cosmetic items. However, earlier this week, Valve teased us of a major update by dropping random junk items to accounts like Pocket Lint, Goldfish, Cheese Wheels, Banana Peels, etc on Tuesday. On Wednesday, wearing a set of cosmetic detective themed items for the medic caused the items to change their descriptions to reveal fragments of a Sherlock Holmes quote. Yesterday, Valve updated the game a third time to cause error codes to appear when crafting banana peels. The codes generated QR codes, showing a court case transcript about Saxton Hale, Poopy Joe, and stolen Australium. Meanwhile, Valve teased a new flare gun in an upcoming update. On a likely related note, Adult Swim announced today that they are doing something TF2 related next week. Also, one of the junk items, a damaged capacitor, teased something big happening today in a few hours.

What about the Goldfish song found in the "How a Gun Gets Made" video? In all likelihood its a coincidence, but at the moment its literally the only thing we have until Valve updates again. Actually, one of the most interesting things: the most I've seen people get pessimistic about TF2 this year was this past monday. Right before the ARG.
