Example: I have Pyro's beanie. I don't like it. I'd like brain slug more. What do I do? I trade!
Anything to add why it's needed??
Duplicates exist only for trading. (originally)
The Steam team will make crafting after they get all the problems with the new UI sorted out.
Why would people trade dupe weapons? Maybe dupe hats but no, I personally find that stupid, once you have all the items it would only exist for hats. Which would be rare as they are meant to be.

You should be happy you have a hat. The crafting and drop system is supposed to be random, so you play the game longer if you want it that bad, sure there is flaws but I personally find it that trading would fuck it up more. Also wanting is not needing, be happy you have a hat. If you that desperate for it, why not make a remodel for it to be the brainslug?
Fact is, why would they add crafting? Crafting is harder to code, probably, and is MUCH less efficient for EVERYONE when it comes to getting what hats you want.
Trading would make crafting 80% useless.

Okay, Player Z has two crit a colas, he crafted the first one and then found the other in a drop. His friend, Player X, wants a crit a cola, but doesn't have the items to craft it. Solution? Player Z trades his dupe crit a cola to his friend Player X.
I know you could say "Well he could have crafted it with another scout item for metal" or "His friend just needs to wait for a drop or the items to craft it", but that's just plain silly.

I like to imagine they added crafting because they knew it would be awhile before trading was in.

Wait: guys wants the beanie, I want the brain slug. WHY shouldn't we be able to swap them?
wait: Guys wants the beanie, i want the brain slug. Why shouldn't we be able to swap them?
Random, random drop system, random crafting system. Deal with it.

Why spend more time making crafting when it would be supposedly easier to do trading? Trading just trades small strings of data. Crafting adds data, and edits its frequently (every craft) and required new items.
For the sake of convenience, If they where ever gonna do trading, I think it would of been first.

He said it was made for trading originally, not crafting so scratch crafting out of that, I can see what good trading would do there but still, you can craft it now with a sandvich and a bonk now so may be less efficient but it still is a decent system, I don't want to lose the crafting system but if we put the trading system we would fuck it up, if you can see what I mean.

That, uh, doesn't really answer his question. At all.

Exactly, if trading is more efficient, it should of been implanted in the war update or before.
I've spent more than 200 hours on TF2 since the Fedora came out
I STILL haven't gotten it.
Yes. Trading needs to come out.
That, uh, doesn't really answer his question. At all.
It does. I'm saying basically he has a hat, but he wants another hat, it is a random system, you have to keep trying till you get it, sure it is a long and not very efficient but it works well, if we got a hat, that is basically a ticket to get any hat you please pretty much if trading was out.
Trading would be fine really, I don't feel items should be things you have to WORK for, only hats really.

Do you have any hats? You can craft a fedora. 4 Refined metals + Spy Token, and they bumped down the weapons needed for a hat to 75 weapons. Also, I've spent way more time on TF2 ever since it came out.
Who cares about levels?. It's only a god damn number.
Who cares about hats? It's only a model. :downs:
We know neither of them are important, but they're kinda like achievements.
We just want them to feel like we've achieved (hurr) something.
Trading would be fine really, I don't feel items should be things you have to WORK for, only hats really.
Well if you could only trade weapons it might be fine but once hats come in, shit would hit the fan really.

You are replying with "Because there is no current way to swap items, or easy ways to get the hats you want."
Are you seeing the disjunction here?

Read updated OP now.
Why exactly are you guys debating this?
OP's a troll or an idiot.
Read updated OP now.
...Did you just make an OP edit to retroactively answer a question that has already been asked, instead of answering the questioner himself?
OP's a troll or an idiot.
Gee, I must be a troll or an idiot if I express my opinion on the so called trading system, if you can't see what I see, I must fall under those 2 categories. :downs:

No, to stop the question being asked again more of, but he can read it if he wants too.
OP is not a troll or an idiot, he's a mental patient
Valve has mentioned trading several times already, why are you being so dumb
You have the right to state your opinion, but it is just one out of many.

You don't realize how much I care about how random user on FacePunch feels about my avatar. I shall now go cut my self in despair.
I know he can't see it.
Valve have stated that trading IS coming out, the Steam guys, the ones implementing it, have been busy with the 2010 UI update. Now it's out the door they're working on trading again. Patience.

You know he can't see it, but you still did it.
Why?
