Material Hacks are annoying as fuck because they can be difficult to detect if the person who's using them isn't a dumbshit about it, and they're easy as hell to use.
So just about every competitive game has it's fair share of mat-hackers. DoDS seems to be plagued with them.

If you want the truth, material "hacks" are not hacks at all and are in no way cheap. It is the server admin's responsibility to block these skins.
Dull, dull.. Incredibly dull. Sure it's nice being able to totally own as a sniper by seeing where your enemies are coming from but it takes all the fun out of it. You're basically just sitting there, bored clicking on people's heads.

That's not the truth, that's [b]your[/b] opinion. How the fuck are they not cheap? Unless I'm mistaken they have the same sort of functionality as a wallhack. You can see through walls at who's on what team. Classes like the Pyro are good for hiding behind corners and popping out when the enemy comes around. It ruins that if he can be anticipated.
If you ask me, anyone who uses material hacks to improve their gameplay (and not just to see what it's like) is cheating and deserves to be VAC banned just like the people who use program-based hacks.
Not that I'm saying it's practical or even possible to detect when someone's a material hack. I just think material hackers should be VAC banned.

Valve have let server owners choose whether or not to trust people to use legitimate skins. If it's anybody's fault for trusting people with custom skins, it's the server owners.
But we can't just blame an abusable system because people abuse it. That's like saying all nuclear power is a bad thing because of nukes. Despite the presence of nuclear power stations. Like saying all knives (kitchen knives, medical knives, the lot) are bad because they're also used for assault and manslaughter.
Also, I don't see how it's not cheating. It's changing the situation for an advantage that you shouldn't have.
