It was done by $ignorez but valve's cracked down on that and made it slightly less exploitable unless you know how to get around it.
Most mat hackers wont though.

These type of exploits used $ignorez, anything using that can bypass sv_pure as it's rendered quickly without checks, $ignorez is normally used on HUD textures which don't require a long rendering time but due to this people have exploited it and found a way to use it on player skins.

Because those admins are fucking stupid as shit and dont know the first thing about creating a whitelist.
In the whitelist just block all VMTs related to Character models and allow all VTFs. This will keep custom skins working for people who dont have custom VTF/VMTs needed to launch them, and will make Material hacks non functional on the server.
If anyone wants a whitelist like this I will be perfectly happy to give you it.

I've seen long time players of many games, of many ages, suck way worse than people who're new to the game, regardless of age. Some people just suck at video games, and some of those people can't accept that they suck and have to use hacks so they can pretend to be good.
