• Newer players get hats more often?

I've had TF2 since the Pyro Update, and got only one hat drop right before the Engineer Update. And I've had at least two friends find their hats within their first month of playing. Not to mention another friend who's been playing since before the first class update still didn't get a hat drop even after I got mine. If this is chance, it's twisted as all hell.
588 hours. 1 hat drop. :(
I think 'luck' is not a valid reason in this case. It's not just luck, and nothing in existence is random. Happens for a reason v:v:v
Complex algorithms that simulate randomness.
120 hours = a hat drop 15,430 (seconds for a chance for a hat drop) * 28 (1 out of 28 chance of getting a hat drop) /60 for minutes. /60 for hours. =~120 hours
i suffered massive irony yesterday.... i posted on a thread similar to this one "i have NEVER found a hat in tf2... then i went on a server, 20 -30 mins later i found my first EVER hat it was hatless engie, crafted it with the yellow belt got hotrod then traded that for ye old baker boy ^^ i think its just all completely random mate. [editline]17th October 2010[/editline] worked out better IMO.
No, it's just that Valve is following you, reading your posts, watching your every move... I've disproved that theory. I've had this account since 2003, and TF2 since day 1. I get 2-3 hats weekly.

I think this is to appease the newer player and play more
Couldn't say, but the last month or so i've got less items before i hit my cap that previously.

I got TF2 the day it came out and I have gotten 1 hat drop about a week ago. It was a bonk helm, which saddened me deeply. But I traded it for a pyro hat. My first hat was a crafted medic mask.
The reason why it is like that is due to the new drop system, hat drops have a higher chance of occuring with the new system as opposed to the old one.
I have noticed this. My friend decided to play tf2 for the first time in like a year when the engy update came out. He got a medic mirror first day. My other friend started back up during engy update. Got a tosslecap first day. It was weird.
I am a casual player. 1290 hours of total play would say that I play daily
I have 689 hours until today, since the beta. This is what I call casual.
588 hours. 1 hat drop. :(
Wow, talk about coincidence, that's the exact same as me. 588 hours played, 1 hat drop.
I've disproved that theory. I've had this account since 2003, and TF2 since day 1. I get 2-3 hats weekly.
2-3 hats weekly? The drop limit is like what? 8 items? That's some pretty crazy luck. Considering I've had 2 hats drop total.
I've never noticed.
I've been playing since shortly before the Heavy Update and have gotten 10+ hat drops. [editline]17th October 2010[/editline] Not including event hats
I have an Alt account that I got a few months ago, and I have yet to find a hat on that account. But on my older account, I have found more hats in the same span of me having my new account. So I'm not sure if newer players really do get more hats.
Played since Beta, have gotten the following: Camera Beard, Mining Light, combined to make a Frenchman's Beret, and then reclaimed metal to make Ze Goggles. At one point I found the Scout's Bonk helmet and the Heavy Duty Rag and I think I may have crafted them and got the Sniper's Panama which was dissapointing. No idea what happened to that though.
I have the silver medal
oh my god the silver medal totally matters because it's obviously a hat, and not everybody has it
Yes they do! I suggested a friend to buy TF2 when I had played like 2 years (Only 1 hat. Was crafted) And he played 2 weeks and dropped his first hat. And now, about 4 months later, he drops another one! New players get hats more often!
I found my first hat, the Sola Topi in June this year after playing since Januray '08, but yesterday I found the Noble Amassment of Hats. Sometimes, I just couldn't care about the probabilities.
My friend bought the game on the day of the Mann Co. update. He has already found 7 hats. I'm furious.
i bought tf2 just before the pyro update, nearly 700 hours of playtime and not a single hat drop.
Hopefully not :ohdear:
And i'm silver, started before medic update. Not only they get the damn hats. But they say they are cool cause they have "vintage".
Yes they do, and I have proven this by the alts a friend and me have got.
:smug:
Yes they do, and I have proven this by the alts a friend and me have got.
am I not your friend
I think... IS COINCIDENCE!
