if anything there's too much detail, no idea where you're getting low res from

I think the big problem is the choice of colors. Bright gold and silver just sticks out in the TF2 palette.
I can agree on both levels. I think it tries to detail itself to say "I'm gleaming" without actually gleaming. So it over-details itself and as a result the right things aren't popping. The lines separating the different bits look flat. They look like lines rather than separation points between parts of the helmet. I think silver and gold can work. You just can't be afraid to try it. The Conquistador sort of got roasted for trying to present a shined metal look.
Take note: I'm not saying the texture looks bad. I'm just saying it doesn't fit with the style. I think my difficulty describing the issue with it is because the first thing that comes to mind is trying to think of what game it reminds me of. Might be Borderlands.
Could someone mod the Brainiac Hairpiece to not clip through everything? Or if such a thing has already been created, could I get a link?
Could a kind soul assist me with getting my pyro hat paintable? :(
Low res textures. Low res textures everywhere. Also, Heavy needs a replacement for that ugly bullet belt.
I've noticed that if you use the Heavy's texture from the TF2 Texture Improvement Project, recompiled versions of his ammo belt have that effect. I have no clue why, I just know it happens when you use that texture.

His bullets turned into...chocolate cigars?
Hmm. Heavy wears a belt of vibrators, and the Purify Fist uses the vibrator texture for the fingers. Fist indeed...
Well, I'm obviously in the minority. I'm not complaining. The model looks awesome. The texture just looks a bit off to me. It just looks a bit flat and styled in a way where it doesn't match the game. And I'm not talking about any sort of "preservation of the aesthetic" thing. I'm having a hard time coming up with the words, but it's sort of like something pixelly run through a smoother.
What he means is that you can see the brush strokes of the texture really clearly, maybe tone down the contrast so the brushstrokes blend or make them bigger and not confined to parts of the helmet would make him happy. I like it how it currently is though.
Also why not leave the idea of using a boring stake/arrow in a crossbow behind, this is tf2 after all and there are plenty of other things that could be put in there, like a big heated rock or a spytech explosive or even multi-stake munitions?
A ballista-styled crossbow?
