i think with items that are common in media/tropes there's always folk who will enjoy it simply for the fact it can be changed. painted/named and given character. background. and that in a sense kinda. enhances the enjoyment people get out of an item.
also the plants initial colouring was inspired by cractus

I pretty much just attached my arms to Valve's gloves so they've probably inherited any wonkiness in that area but...I should probably go check on it anyway.

Which looks a little more pronounced in my model but maybe it's just due to the frame in the idle animation I screencapped it at, not sure.
Of course in the process of getting those I discovered that I need to make another viewmodel for the stock syringe gun, argh.

My jigglebones don't work in the video, but work in the demo. You guys seem pretty expert on this sort of thing. Any ideas?

So I came to realize I'm by far not good enough with the TF2 style to make this texture look like anything decent, thanks guys these models of you crushed my hopes. I tried for quite some time but not booking any progress

For paint.
You don't really need a normal map, just play with shading on the diffuse and the specular and if you don't feel like painting it bake some ambient occlusion.
Talking about that, for most Valve made TF2 weapons it looks like they bake some sort of normal map or shadow map on their textures to defne better the shapes, I just can't quite figure what it is.
