Whoopsie Daisy. That wasn't supposed to happen; fixed.
I'd say groan because I flat out hate fans who change their fucking terminology because of some pastel marshmellow ponies do it.

i still like it.would be be all paintable or is this just a joke cause of the specific colors?
Talking about that, for most Valve made TF2 weapons it looks like they bake some sort of normal map or shadow map on their textures to defne better the shapes, I just can't quite figure what it is.
An AO bake, or do you mean something else?

Wait, the ponies are made of marshmallow? Such a strange show.
So is the sword part of the dragon model or an item?
Part of the model. I can make it a separate item if anyone wants it

Maybe I am just imagining things, but some textures, like the v_shotgun, or the wrangler texture it looks to me like it has some sort of badked shading, maybe it is a AO with a very large spread, I'll have to test, but what makes me think its some sort of normal or baked light is that if you look at the bevels on one side its lighter and the other its darker, very easy to notice this on things like bullet shells in the (v_shotgun texture) the top is lighter and the bottom darker, it probably doesn't matter that much but its probably a way to work faster and give some volume to the model.
Here a little sample of the v_shotgun:

I don't think you get that highlight/shadow from an AO, I tried mixing baked normal channels but it doesn't much sense to bake one of the channels, though its probably the channel that give as if the light came from the top and the bottom of the model gets a darker shading.
me and Populus were discussing this earlier, if you look at Elbegast and LaroLaro's textures you can see a similar effect. I think it comes from placing a light (or several lights) above the model and baking out a map of the lighting information to overlay on top of your AO map.
Well, I'll tone down the normal map then. I honestly think it looked better. Here's an experiment in camo.

Good guess, I'll try that, this is best for weapons or models with rather sharp geometric shapes I guess.
Edit: Thecuntsman, pretty cool hat, bake an ao (with a smaller range so you get smaller details) from your model in which you sculpted or modeled that fine detail and then also apply that ao to your diffuse & specular map.

You mean I told you that's how it is, and that you can use it and then you didn't care and I felt sad and the next day you were like oh yes that's how it is.
Anyway you can see the effect on the vanilla RL. It's completely dark on it's bottom, while an AO map would make it lighted evenly.

It's dark no matter how the light is positioned.

Try increasing (or lowering, forgot which) the phong_exponent, it looks like he's wearing a hat made out of rubber with that shininess.

I Know you don't like alliteration but this is the best i could muster:
Draigh's Diadem
Aidan's Ammana
Eldridge's Esparterie
Cullen's Caul
Trivia Time:
a diadem is a jeweled hat.
an ammana is a turban.
esparatie is a material use to make hats stand up.
a caul is a headdress.
These are actual names of hats.

When it comes to paintability in my textures, I always make a paintable, then choose a colour. Like the first image in that pallet. If I don't do it, Valve will.
On phong: There is currently no spec map. ok?
that is amazingly sexy
