That's not useless stuff; that's body armor, ammo pouches, and fuel canisters. It's not a rifle with 3 underslung weapons, two flashlights, 3 different sights, a barbecue grill, and a blogging killcounter.

I've tried this once before and failed (well not failed but it needed work), so once again, from scratch I have retextured the Dalokohs Bar.
I've always hated the texture (it was one of the first things I had ever done for TF2), and at the time I only ever submitted a blue texture.
The original texture was submitted with a bump map (awful decision in retrospect), which was removed by Valve.
They then, due to a lack of a red texture, simply changed the hue of the original texture to a rough red shade.
This left the already terribly textured blue texture, suddenly even MORE pixelated in red form.
It was also submitted with no AO at all.
The last two days I've tried to create an AO from a decompiled version of the model (to various degrees of success),
and as such have also tried to recreate the texture from scratch, fixing many issues I had with it.
It now has colors based on TF2 samples and paint colors (the original simply was off the bat color choosing),
the front, bottom and back now match up along the white bar/stripes down the middle,
the bottom no longer has a terrible attempt at aluminum foil, and is a LOT clearer with no pixelation.
My original attempt was subpar and had weird orangey chocolate, and as a result I could not get the bar updated for a year or two.
Hopefully this time it can finally be fixed.

The logos aren't much different besides one being incredibly blurry and stretched.
I'm happy with them as they are now.
As for the phong, I honestly couldn't get it to look nice, and sort of like how it looks without being shiny all over.
I know phong can often 'cause conflicting opinions, so I'm not going to argue what is right or wrong or what looks better.
All I can say is that I'm happy with it, and if Valve would rather it with phong then they're quite capable of enabling it.

That's probably because you haven't made a phong mask for it.
The logo on the original one looks more real/deeper. The new ones chocolate just looks fake.

the old one looks like a texture used on a nintendo 64.
But the new one could be a lot better.

It's not really something I really care much about perfecting,
rather I just wanted to replace it with something that didn't burn my retinas.
It's less about creating something awesome, and more about fixing something terrible.
As for the logo parts, think of it less as recessed chocolate (old version) and think of it more
as dark chocolate shapes built into the chocolate. It's not necessarily supposed to be identical.
I appreciate the criticism, but I did indeed make a phong mask.
Assuming it's something I didn't even think of is a little unfair and paints a low picture of what I know about making textures.
I'm not the best by any means of course however, so I don't claim anything by the above.
I'll consider going back to work at the phong at some point though.
