Swizzle made a really good texturing tutorial for tf2 on Polycount, I'll see if I can find the link. It's what got me into what I do now.

i think the problem is that all scout scatterguns are thick, so they fill up most of his hand, and yours is thin, like the shotgun, so it looks weird.
The medic's needlegun has a muzzleflash
Aside from all the Pony Fortress stuff, this guy got the point right.
I revived the beta muzzleflashes.
Altrough, i still need to do the fancy preview stuff.
Anyway, heres the promised link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/48317020/The%20Beta%20Muzzleflash%20revival.rar
Also, if someone could do the preview banner/download thing, i woud be very thankful.

What was wrong with the old muzzleflashes? Unless they stopped working of course.
What was wrong with the old muzzleflashes? Unless they stopped working of course.
I dont know.
I just added them for some more weapons (like, the RL, for example).

All you REALLY need is gimp.
If you have money you can pick up photoshop, but it is a touch on the expensive side. (Just like a Ferrari is a touch expensive.)
If you want to compile you will mdldecompiler to decompile a model and get all its .qc and junk, and a compiler to compile your junk.
Now I might be, and often am, wrong.
But that should be about the basics for making a model and being able to texture.
Skill is also nessecary. (Which I severly lack when it comes to texturing.)
Like Thatrandom user said swizzle has a great tut up.
So I've been trying to come up with a unique detonator effect as per request of ned_ballad.
Anybody have any good examples of firework effects that aren't the stupid ball of sparks? No matter what I do, I can't keep the sparkball from looking as generic and boring as... I don't know, any episode of Lucky Star or something.

Just some clipping to fix, then I can start texturing.
Hey guys.
I haven't posted anything in a really long time, and I would really enjoy if you guys would look at my model, give me some feedback, maybe rate it, idunno.
I haven't yet seen this mod made, so i took a good 6 months to plan and make it, and here is my (semi)final version of it.

As you can see, it's a Tusken Raider's Head for the pyro.

The model's very good, but seems rather detailed for a TF2 item, especially one so small.

I like them both, might be a problem that you can't see the compass face?

WIP helmet to go with my mask with lame paintover, looks pretty bad with the default mask so it'll probably get pretty redesigned tomorrow.

A bit of clipping on the high five... Otherwise it seems to be coming along nicely

The compass is very visible during reloading, so it's all good.

Sad to say that's not the first time it's been done, though it was anime girls last time. Anywho, that got banned pretty quick, so I expect this to be gone soon as well.

Maybe you could make it like this old jet helmet for night missions.
[t]http://www.fuhs.de/en/helmet/hgu_helm.jpg[/t]
That way the visor can be down without obscuring pyro's eyes and it has that neat forehead shield thing as well.

mebbe, I think any sort of visor over his lenses is going to look silly, no matter how transparent, I'll try it out tomorrow anyway

Have you thought about styles? I'd like to be able to choose if my pyro gets dust on his lenses or not.

Well, the visor could simply be withdrawn outta sight under the forehead plate. Though I think jet helmets are more recognizable with the large shiny visor visible.
Maybe it could simply have styles with the visor up or down?
There's also this if you want a helmet with the raised visor visible on the outside. I know it's similar to what you already have there, but I think the way the visor's attached looks more interesting here.
[t]http://www.bellsaviation.com/catalog/pictures/Image_20090908_178_600.jpg[/t]
If you're interested. there's more pics here. I suggest you check 'em out for details on the visor mechanics.
However, I still think it's rather silly to wear two sets of darkened eyewear at the same time, even if the other's raised to the forehead.
That's why I suggested the transparent visor. That, and the various miscs would be visible if it was down.
I totally would use the shit out of an axe that also had a rifle (okay, shotgun) built into it.
Someone should make it happen.
I am the best when it comes to rigging.

The screws are probably my favourite part of the texture so far.
Hey, I mostly lurk, but I had some ideas for Team Fortress 2 items. I'd like to learn how to model, but I don't think my skills would do my ideas justice. So, here's some crappy concept art I drew.
[thumb]http://i845.photobucket.com/albums/ab19/LASERNOODLES/Mightaswell.png[/thumb]
One is for an old-timey Demoman Grenade launcher that shoots Dynamite instead of the current grenades, the idea is a worn, hand carved weapon. The second idea is a Captain Ahab beard and hair for Sniper and a Sniper rifle with a Sextant as a scope. I know the Sextant looks overly detailed for a team fortress 2 item. If you feel like modeling them, tell me, or if you have any tips for a beginner, that'd be nice too.
The model's very good, but seems rather detailed for a TF2 item, especially one so small.
The texture will take care of that, i think.
There.
Now my never finished sleeves will kinda see the light of day.

I feel like I should make a weapon, than I remember that I really don't want to.
Gonna get it all rigged tomorrow.
(Or I might give it whirl tonight, but more likely tomorrow.)
